AuditionI have an audition for A Chorus Line at a nearby theatre, but I have no idea what are the vocal ranges for the females in the show or who I should audition for.
I'm a soprano to mezzo, 5'2, blonde, and busty.
I have only heard Diana, Sheila, Cassie but they sound kinda low for me.
Does anyone know the vocal ranges for the female characters?
Thanks!!

If you're busty and can sing high, go for Val. She sings "Dance Ten ; Looks Three" which is a song basically all about her being...erm...Gifted, if you catch ma drift. And it's a relatively high song. Good for a mezzo.

Yeah, I can sing extremely high, but can't go extremely low. I'm not exactly sure of my range yet since I started as a mezzo and I can taught myself how to hit more soprano-ish notes.
Thanks!!

I don't think Val has any really low notes...And as long as you're comfortable singing about your physical attributes, go for it!

i definitely say go for val, being, you know...busty, is one of the things that basically shapes her whole character, and definitely her solo song "dance: ten, looks: three"
and it's a nice belty song too, so it should be good for a mezzo. and i see you were in west side story, so i suppose you're a good dancer, and val is supposed to be one of the best performers.
have fun!

Yeah, I've been doing ballet for 15 years.
And bluewind, I love the icon! I'm seeing SA again on November 3rd(it'll be my 5th time)

When i saw it, a girl almost exactly like your description played Val, and was wonderful. It's such a fun song, you should definitely go for Val. If you are, sing something fun and playful just like "Dance 10 Looks 3" such as "Speaking French" from Lucky Stiff or A Call From the Vatican from Nine
Good luck!

I played Val and I'm a soprano! I'm also not busty in the least, I'm short, and I've got brown hair (I didn't wear a wig either.) The song isn't hard to belt but it's not really necessary to belt it anyway. I mixed my voice for Dance 10.. my monologue & song is out there on Youtube somewhere. Let me know if you want to check it out for any help.
Oh, and I sang Dance 10 for the audition but I used "this and that" instead of T&A so it wouldn't seem improper.

I agree that you should go for Val!
I just did a Chorus Line, and the girl who played val, was really good. Think Seductive and saucy, pout a little and sing with gusto!

I have an audition for A Chorus Line coming up in a few months, but I want to get ahead and start planning now. Any advice? I am about 5'8" and 120 pounds, dark hair, dark eyes, soprano (but can sing mezzo roles), fairly limited belt.
Does anyone have any tips for auditions for this specific show? Who should I audition for?
Thanks!

^^ Um...thanks...?
But anyway, I kind of don't know what to do...I'll be sixteen at the time of the show. Is that too young to get a part? Let me know what you think.
