Very good luck to you!

May I ask how you find out about such auditions? Is it a professional production, like a tour? Do you have to have an agent to go, or can you just go?

JemiBoe1981

beautiful__dreamer

Awww yeah!! I love that people are "crossing their paws for me!" haha! And ekk I don't know! I will be thrilled with anything... i think i did pretty d--- well though... had the highest and lowest range in my testing group so that's usually a good thing...

le gra go deo,
Ep
beautiful__dreamer

I DID indeed get cast! I AM in it but they aren't sure who's who yet.. they have picked the talent but they don't quite know our voices and such well enough yet to assign roles.. so they are going to do more audition type things with the cast these next couple weeks...
cobar

Yea!
Well Done!
*throws confetti*
Congrats!
Drumdraper

Congrats! So are you part of the new US tour?
Idiosylph

Fantastic news! Please keep us updated on the casting! Very Happy
beautiful__dreamer

Rehearsals start tomorrow so they should start to get some idea about casting... going to have a big sleep tonight so I can prepare to dance my butt off tomorrow... and No, unfortunatly I am not part of the US tour... I WISH! and SOMEDAY!!! It is just my school for now... however, my school is pretty hard core about musicals... our budget is HUGE and we put on Massive productions every year. Over 100 people tried out and they only kept 30... sooo, i guess that in itself is an accomplishment. One of these days you will read my name in a Broadway program, but as of today unfortunatly no. But in reply to one person's question (I believe it was Rumpleteazer4760) I did have an agent however I left that company because he was NOT a good agent! Did get a couple auditions but I am doing better on my own at the moment... looking for another... Anyways, I will keep you updated on the casting when I know what's going on.
JemiBoe1981

What amazing news! I am so jealous, I swear! What I'd give to do CATS and do it well...
Drumdraper

What part are you?

this must be for a highschool production?? Because at least for any audition Ive ever been to they type who they want for what role from the moment they see your face..... Not trying to be a b*tch I promise, I have just never heard of auditions that are run like that.

Cats is really a different kind of casting than normal shows, considering it's mostly dance and song. I'm assuming they just choose the best dancers and singers, and assign roles according to voice and body type. Except for 'leads' like Griz, Tugger, etc, who have an incredibly obvious and defined character.
That's not to say the rest of the cats don't have defined character, but basically anyone could pull them off, where as only certain types could get the lead roles.

Actually, it was Heather. Apparently she deleted it. Basically it said that we've auditioned for any number of shows, this one included, and we've never seen or heard of an auditon/casting being run that way.

Shocked me too!!!!!!!!!!! My anger went away so I choose to delete my post. But yes as stated we have auditioned for many shows and have never heard of people being picked and then placed. Not to say it doesnt happen, just not in professional theatre.
beautiful__dreamer

I know that's not the way professional theater is done and it's not usually the way my school does it either... usually it is cast completly but with this show it is quite different... my school is really really really really into the arts .. we have a theatre with the second widest stage in Southern Ontario second ONLY to the Stratford Festival Theater. Our directors had over 100 people audition for CATS therefore the audition process is taking quite a bit longer than normal. Trust me, I know the way normal auditions go... been through quite a few...

p.s. First rehearsal went well... danced my ass off... AND I was personally told that yes I am one of the few people left in the "audition process" (basically meaning I will hopefully have a lead)
littlgriz

wonderful

congradulations buteful i hope you get griz
beautiful__dreamer

@ littlgriz

I don't think I want Griz.. I LOVE to dance.. LOVE LOVE LOVE.. so if I got Griz I wouldn't get to Dance much... sooo that would be really sad... but I would still be super excited if I got her... Bombalurina is what I really want... but I would be perfectly cool with Jeminia, Demeter or anything along those lines...

Who in the name of sweet God is Jeminia?

Anyway, out of all of those? Demeter. Spazzing out is fun, weeee!

Um Im sure she meant Jemima........or Sillabub as us in the States know her as.
Spylfyr

I think Kragey was actually joking about the misspelling. But then, it is possible that they could have created a new character especially if it's an amateur production. (But very unlikely of course).

I don't think she meant that literally. I'm pretty sure she was simply exaggerating, and just trying to say that for the slightly less important roles there is often more leeway in terms of the how the character should be, and no (or at least not a very definite) particular "look" that they are after.

Which is completely untrue in every form. You have nooo clue how hard it is for any character, they have a very set idea for EACH character in the show. I think *I* should know. *tosses hair in Cher like manner*
Filakatessa

Hey beautiful__dreamer

I live in southern ontario, just outside of toronto. Where is your school? I'd love to be able to see the performance if it's close enough.

Congrats on getting cast. Any idea as to what role yet?

That's exactly what I meant.

Especially in a non professional production, there is less dance talent, and you try to find the best, but there really isn't the pool of talent to have all of the characters so particular.
beautiful__dreamer

@ LaurelDP

I wouldn't say there is a lot less dance talent... true there IS less but our cast is pretty much made up of musical kids from the past 4 years who have been in multiple productions outside of school and pretty much our entire competative dance team... who have won gold in every competition they enter... I think a lot of you are under estimating the intensity of our productions... We have hired a costuming company in Toronto to make all of the costumes new.... we will be the first ones to wear them! YEAH! And they will make them for our measurments! EKK! Yeah, we are kind of intense when it comes to theater.. OHHH and the Jemima thing was definatly misspelling... rather mistyping... OHHH sidenote, started to learn Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats today... I definatly want to shoot the Alto part! GRRR! I'll keep you posted when I know further casting
beautiful__dreamer

Ok, I was informed today we WILL know casting by next week.. probably thursday... keep your paws crossed Smile
beautiful__dreamer

alrighty... for anyone who is interested we FINALLY started solo auditions.. the only part that is cast FOR SURE is Munkustrap... the rest of us still do not know.. I got called in today though to sing for Bombalurina (the part I want MOST MOST MOST of all) so that made me smile.. when I know more, you will know more..

side note: while checking out the really useful group website I found my school! It turns out we are the first High School to EVER recieve the CATS rights... pretty darn cool!
Cassandra

Wasn't the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts where Billy Johnstone had his production the first to receive the rights?

http://www.crec.org/cats/
Spylfyr

That's what I thought as well, Cassandra. Confused
beautiful__dreamer

Ok, ok, it has taken long enough but I guess they wanted to make sure they had everything perfect... The casting is ALMOST done but I know who I am now *drumroll please Smile * BOMBALURINA!!! Exactly what I wanted so I am thrilled!!!!!! Anyways, we have almost completly finished Jellicle Song for Jellicle Cats.. we just need to finalize things when casting is complete. We have finished The Naming of Cats and Victoria's Solo (like the ending of it when everyone is back out again). We are starting The Gumbie Cat on Monday! *sings* BUUUUT When the days hussle and bussle is done... YIPPIE!
Roxanne

Sweet. ^_^ Congratulations. If all goes well, you'll have a fantastic time. Keep up updated. =) (Pictures would be cool, too, but if you can't, we understand XP)

Cheers. Cool
Spylfyr

Wow! Many congrats!!! Very Happy *claps*

You'll of course post photo's right?

Begs with BIG eyes. Shocked
beautiful__dreamer

OF COURSE I WILL POST PHOTOS!!!!! I will start taking some this week! Practice tomorrow!! Blocking Gumbie Cat Song!!! YEAH!!!!!!
Cassandra

Congratulations! I'm jealous. Wink

Will the choreography be based off Gillian Lynne's, or are you doing original choreography?
JemiBoe1981

Oh, that's so exciting! Bomby has inched her way up my favorite character list so much it isn't even funny. She's defititely my second favorite queen. I looove her. Lucky, lucky.

Yepyep! It was FIERCE . . . EXTREMELY well danced and sung and really a beautiful production visually . . . I'm glad other high schools are doing it, though, and I'm interested to see what other people will do with it!
beautiful__dreamer

Quote:

Yeah we are ppprrrreeettttyyy much basing the choreography off of Gillian Lynne's... with some differences.. just because of room and such.. our stage isn't as deep... it is extremly wide but we are lacking in depth.. The main difference I have noticed is in Jellicle Songs only because we have a few dancers that aren't quite as strong so we have split it up at a couple parts (strong dancers in front doing what we do and then others in the back doing a modified version or playing around on the set).. It's going really well.. and we got measured the other day Smile
wonderjoe

LOL, i'm also with one of the few high schools that are doing it! congratulations on getting Bombalurina!
sweetjemimakitten

Yaay! I love Bomby, she's so much fun.

Speaking of highschool productions, I'd like to add in that I've talked to my principal as well as our theatre instructors and a few dance instructors ( I go to a school of the arts, one of the top in the country Smile ) and CATS could possibly be popping up sometime in 2007 Wink
beautiful__dreamer

Oh that's awesome SweetJK!! If you do getthe chance to do it you will have so much fun.. it is BY FAR the best musical I have been in!

Ohh sidenote for anyone... want to hear your thoughts... Old Deut as a female?? A female with a ridiculourly strong voice.. they haven't announced it for sure yet but the music director mentioned it to me about this one girl... still ajusting to the idea.
enkeli-kitten

YAY congrats beautiful_dreamer!!! Can't wait to see pics!!!
I wish my high school was good enough to put on CATS...I begged my music teacher to reccomend it but our school is so talentless. We were stuck with stupid Footloose. (oh well at least there was a lot of dance in that.) Even my dance school won't put on CATS! *cries* They say it's a DANCE school and they don't have enough singers. And it is a pretty small school.

*giggles* A girl? *tries to picture it* Well, I guess it could sort of work...if you'd never seen CATS...don't you have enough guys? I can understand boys not wanting to prance around in skintights...girls too lol!!
Spylfyr

Hmmm, Old Deut as a girl... unless her voice sounds really masculine I don't know how that would work! Laughing
beautiful__dreamer

Yeah, I don't know how it is going to work either... and it is not that we don't have enough talented guys.... we just don't have enough talented guys willing to prace around in a unitard.... We have a ridiculous amount of girl talent though... and a lot of really really strong dancers (female AND male).. but yeah, Old Deut as a female?? I am not fond of it... i hope they decide on something else... that was just one suggestion they threw out.
Spylfyr

Well, Old Deut doesn't wear a unitard, in fact he doesn't even really dance except for waddling around and doing some arm movements in 'Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats.' Maybe if they tell the guys that, they would be more willing to do it?
enkeli-kitten

Or Old D could just be a girl. The Great Mother Jellicle...

I guess it doesn't work if you think about the whole Old Deuteronomy/Grizabella theory.
Cassandra

Are they going to portray Old Deut as a female, or is it going to be a girl pretending to be a male Old Deut? If it's the former, I think they'll have a hard time, unless they dare change some of the poetry. How do you get around, "Old Deuteronomy's buried nine wives?"

Also, just my opinion, but something like, "And the village is proud of her in her decline," just sounds weird. Laughing
Spylfyr

Although I seriously doubt they would make Old D's character female, if they did, perhaps they could skip certain stanzas in the poem and have the other stanzas which are not normally used in Cats to avoid that problem.
beautiful__dreamer

Ok So Old Duet is definatly a girl... but i think she is still going to portray it as a man.. we did the same thing with Children of Eden a couple years ago... had a female "Father".. We have one really good teacher who ONLY works on character development and was able to make that work so I'm sure we will have no problems with this either. Hopefully...

sidenote: Griz is FINALLY cast and it is exactly who I wanted it to be! She is FANTASTIC!! And will do absolutly amazing!
beautiful__dreamer

Oh Oh, exciting casting news to catch you all up on.. no time right now but get ready to be shocked beyond all belief!

beautiful_dreamer
Etcetera Kitten

Congratulations, really! I'm thrilled for you, it's so great that you got the part you wanted most! So, how often do you have to rehearse, and do you need to stay after school and all? It's a lot of effort, which I'm sure will give good results! Ohhh and I think that a girl Deuteronomy would work, it's just a matter of acting it. Even if her voice sounds not so male, you can forget that easily if she is good with the role.

Once again I wish you to have a good time!
beautiful__dreamer

Alrighty, so this gril was REALLY upset that I got Bombalurina because she is a MAJOR dancer (like on the competative dance team, aspiring captain) ... so got Jellylorum and complained that she can't sing the song (Gus: The Theater Cat).. so anyways, Directors talked to me.. If I will give up Bombalurina's one dance solo in the Jellicle Ball I get to sing Gus too! AHHH! So I know it doesn't really fit Bomba's character... but I don't think many people will notice.. being that I am very sure not a lot of people in my town are major cat buffs... soooooo.. i get the part of my dreams.. give up a small little dance and I gain a spectacular song! How awesome is that!?!

Ohhh and we did Old Deut's song today... and it went amazingly well! The girl nailed it! The director who specializes in character development worked with her and brought it out sooo well. It went a lot better than I expected!

Oh, and for those of you who wanted pictures... they are coming... Smile Very very cool!
pkitty663

pardon me...but...What the fluff is that girl's problem? You won the spot fair and square...well if giving her the dance will shut her up then I guess... d'oh! ah well I'm happy for you and I can't wait to see the piccies =3
beautiful__dreamer

Anybody interested to see callboard pictures?? I currently have them in my possession.
Spanish_Rumple

what is callboard? I'd like to see them
