Audition Songs and MonologueI know this is becoming something of a generic topic, but a quick glance through this forum did not quite produce what I was looking for. There are auditions in February for Beauty and the Beast at a local theatre, and I am currently preparing to try out for Belle. We are required to have two songs prepared (a ballad, and something with a faster tempo) as well as a monolgue. This is the first time I've ever had to prepare more than one song, and the -very- first time I've had to deliver a monologue. Does anyone happen to have any suggestions for part appropriate pieces?

I like the idea of using "Much More" from "The Fantasticks" as an uptempo for Belle. As long as you can do it without appearing to be too soprano. I know it's a little high for some people to do in a Belle-appropriate tone.

If you like the idea of using another disney song in auditions, I'm a big fan of "Just around the Riverbend" from Pocahontas. That one is actually both fast and slow, but you could use just the first part for a fast selection.
Or sing the whole thing as a fast/slow combo. It has a wide range too (low G to high D or E I think).
As for a monologue... wow. I haven't done one of those in forever. I'll check and see if I have any books. You can browse some monologue books at the library or bookstore. Choose something young and fresh, but not too teeny-bopper or valley girl. Intelligent, romantic, strong minded, yet wistful.
Ha, easy for me to say.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, but something else just occured to me. The audition is for their entire upcoming season, so I would also be preparing for a part in Fiddler on the Roof. Any suggestions as to songs that would be appropriate for -both- productions?

If the audition is for both shows, then do something in the vain of "Home"/"Far From the Home I Love"; maybe "On My Own" or part of "In My Life"?

At the moment I'm attempting to choose between Vanilla Ice Cream (from She Loves Me) and Much More (from the Fantastiks) for my uptempo piece. Which do you suppose would be more appropriate? I've picked up on hints that for Belle you dont want to seem to Soprano?
