Audition song request with a differenceMy local theatre company is doing a show called 'Our Best Bits', which is basically their version of Cameron Mackintosh's 'Hey Mr Producer'. I am auditioning, and am allowed to play roles from my age right up until the mid to late twenties. The director suggested choosing an audition song from the shows the theatre company has done in the past, but since I have never had to choose an audition song (they have always been provided) I am totally lost. Here is a list of the shows they have done that might be in the show:
The Wizard of Oz
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Into The Woods
Cabaret
West Side Story
Hello Dolly
42nd Street
The King and I
Annie
Follies
My Fair Lady
Fiddler on the Roof
Oliver
Charlie Girl
The Boyfriend
Oklahoma
HMS Pinafore
The Mikado
Brigadoon
The Gypsy Baron
The Pirates of Penzance
The Merry Widow
I would really like a song with a lot of emotional content, and that can show off my abilities. Overdone songs aren't a problem in my area - trust me on that. My range is from E3 to C6 (i think that's right? E below middle C and the C two octaves above?)
I was thinking maybe As Long as He Needs Me?? But a lot of these musicals I haven't seen, so I'm not really educated enough to make an informed decision.
It should also be mentioned that I was Dorothy in their production of 'The Wizard of Oz', with the same directors so they know what I can do. I've also been in 'Annie' as Molly and in 'the King and I' as Princess Ying Yaowlack.
Any help would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated

Well, it looks like they have done mostly stuff from the early and classical eras of Broadway, my only advice would be to stay in that range with an audition song. I'm not very familiar with Oliver or "As Long as He Needs Me"- does it have a wide range? Since they have already worked with you, I would just try to find something that shows off your wide range and that flatters your voice type. (are you more of a soprano that can hit lower notes, or more of a mezzo/alto that can hit higher notes? go with the stronger register)
Others will probably have to help with actual song choices... ?
but ones that jumped into my mind were:
-Ribbons Down my Back from Hello Dolly
-Show Me from MFL
- something from one of the G&S shows they've done

Cool, I'll look into those.
I'm more of a mezzo who can hit high notes and can belt.
As Long As He Needs Me is quite emotional and I love it, and its a nice belty piece, but not a huge range.
