I'm auditioning for Hello,Dolly! next Monday. And i think i'm going out for the part of Minnie, although they don't ask you to audition for a specific part, and the song I will be singing is "What I Did For Love" from a Chorus Line.

However, i'm not to sure about that song. I have some other songs that I have sung in the past and these are the songs i'm considering:

A Lovely Night, from Cinderella
If I Loved You, from Carousel
Button Up Your Overcoat from Good News
Someone to Watch Over Me from Oh,Kay!
There's A Small Hotel from On Your Toes
This Can't Be Love from The Boys From Syracuse

those are the songs i think would work best with this show. Should I keep my original song or use one of the ones listed above?? Thanks.

I played the part of Minnie in Hello, Dolly and I auditioned with the song "Ribbons down My Back." I'm not sure if you are allowed to sing a song from the show, though. How about something from Thoroughly Modern Millie? Miss Dorothy's part in "How the Other Half Lives" maybe? I wouldn't sing "What I did for Love" just because it doesn't seem very Minnie-ish to me and the only song on your list that I'm familiar with is "If I Loved You," but I wouldn't sing that either.

The most important deciding factor here is what song will show you off the best for that role, and without hearing your voice that isn't something most of us can help you with.

I sang What I Did For Love. but i was surprised, i thought most of hte girls would have songs in the style of the show but a lot of them did WICKED!!! I was like WOW! and some girls did Oklahoma and Flower Drum Song songs.
