Audition song for female roleI'm going to be auditioning for the part in this fabulous play this December, and I am very excited, and very nervous. It's with a local Kidstage group (the oldest being cast will be HS seniors) which I have never taken part in (though I was asked to be in the chorus int he recent production of Beauty and the Beast, and unfortunately had to turn it down), but I've heard is a really great company. the only thing is, I know that the whole group tends to be tight knit, and that most of the good performers all know the directors and producers, so, I kind of feel like I don't have a chance. That being said, my dream role would definitely be The Baker's Wife, but, i feel that setting myself up with a song and monologue pointing me towards this character would be pointless, because it's doubtful I'll be considered for this part when there are so many other people they know better (I've had very bad experiences with past directors when it comes to favoritism, so, I always think about it). Soooo, I'm leaning towards Cindy or Red (who I figure will be cast as a younger kid because the cast will be grades 8-12). But, even still, I don't know. I guess I just don't have much confidence. But I do know that I would love to have a larger role
ANYWAY, all that angst aside, I want to try to find a good song that would be good for The Baker's Wife, AND Cindy AND Red (if we could work it in). So, I'm looking for this amazing song. I've been classically trained since age 12, and tend to the lean towards the dramatic soprano range. I love belting, but I tend to overdo it with tons of vibrato (but, i ca still do it) and I can also reach pretty high. Any suggestions.
Thanks tons!
Alana
PS: I'm aware that provided tons of info you didn't need to know... what can I say, I like detail. And I want THE perfect song. Okay... going now. Thanks again.

You've heard?Might just be a silly rumor. If it's a great company, they'll know you've got talent and they find a great part for you.
Song...Song...I Know the Truth-Aida would be Cindy or possibly a Red song. If I had a fine white horse or Hold On from the Secret Garden for the Baker's Wife. The problem is, you say you are more of a soprano, but you want mezzo roles(with the exception of Cinderella).
My advice? Although BW, Witch, Red, Cindy are all great roles, you forgot a bunch more. The stepfamily, Rapunzel, more great and smaller roles. If you are a soprano, you should also consider Rapunzel because she is really fun to play. Ask someone who's better at this than me for thier advice now!

The first song I thought of was "My New Philosophy" from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. I'm not that familiar with the song, but I think it could work for both Little Red and Cinderella. It might even work for The Baker's Wife. I'm thinking of a connection with "Moments in the Woods", I could be wrong. As I said, I'm really not familiar with the song.
Don't rule out the smaller roles in the show. Rapunzel, Florinda and Lucinda all have their comedic moments! Good luck with your audition!

Just finished this show. My friend got the Baker's Wife and she sang Nothing from A Chorus Line
my other friend had little red and she sang Sixteen Going on Seventeen from Sound of Music
and my friend who got Rapunzel sang Home from Beauty and the Beast (she actually could hit Rapunzel's high notes)
whatever song you choose, make it a character song. this show is full of CHARACTERS, so make big choices with it and don't back down. if the directors see that you made a big choice with your song and stuck to it then they'll admire that. don't set yourself up for failure, go for the baker's wife. why not? you have a good a chance as anyone else.
