Audition song for Baker's Wife, what do you think?

Hey there, everyone!

My high school is doing Into the Woods this fall, and I'm trying to figure out what song to use for my audition. I really want to be Baker's Wife, and I think I have a pretty good chance at the part if I have a good audition. I'm a senior, by the way.
Right now I'm seriously considering "Hold On" from Secret Garden and "Wouldn't it Be Loverly" from My Fair Lady (leaning toward Hold On), but I'm also looking for other suggestions.

Any ideas?

If you wanted to use Sondheim to audition for a Sondheim show, I'd think "By the Sea" might work -- it kind of has the same feel as BW's fantasizing about the Prince. For more answers, there's a whole thread devoted to audition songs in the Auditions forum.

By the Sea sounds perfect in my opinion.

I wouldn't do Wouldn't It Be Loverly. If you feel that you absolutely must, don't do the accent.

Thanks so much!

I agree, Loverly doesnt work as well... Embarassed

And By the Sea sounds great...I hope I can pull it off. I guess if not, the I'll just go back and try Hold On. hmmm

But thank you, very much Very Happy
(other ideas still appreciated, if anyone has any)

I tried out for ITW and sang "Hold On" from Secret Garden. I ended up with Lucinda. Craziness. Good luck to you!

do Ahh But Underneath from Follies.

I suggest 'Just a Housewife' from Working. I haven't heard it in context, but I learned it once while I was looking for a new teacher... I didn't keep the teacher, but I instantly recognized it as a great Baker's Wife-like song.

It's basically about her dissatisfaction with what society says about housewives and how unimportant they are... but, I think, within that, there is also the potential to show how maybe in some way, she agrees, and wants to be appreciated more, which is the completely like the Baker's Wife.

Also, it shows a great mezzo range. It starts moderately low, and there's a belt section (or at least I chose to belt it, and it would probably be best) near the end.

First, thank you so much to everyone who's suggested songs, it's been a huge help!

Well, the audition is this month...and to be perfectly honest I'm still stuck. Confused

The problem for me with songs like Ah But Underneath and Hold On, as I've realized is I'm not strong enough on the lower notes to make it sound really good.
I tried to keep with the 'Sondheim for a Sondheim show' theory...and considered "Another Hundred People" and I'm still considering "Just a Housewife" (as suggested)
So, now I'm looking for opinions on those two. One is more simple but perfect for the character's motivations and the other is much more difficult, but less related to the character.

Ideas?

Haha! That's so funny that you are considering those two songs! My school is doing Secret Garden this year and I'm singing 'Loverly' for my audition! Hahaha!

Sorry...

Anyway, I was Baker's Wife in my school's production (as a freshmen) and I sang 'Anyone Can Whistle'.

Well did you get it?

I didn't end up getting Baker's Wife...

But I did get the role of Jack's Mother...and I'm super psyched about it Dancing
can't wait to block my death Smile
music is my life!!!

lol that's gonna be awesome - that'd be a really fun part!

Congrats! I saw a production of ITW once and Jack's mother and Jack where the sole acting highlight of the entire production. No one else. I seriously think that she did parts better than Barbara Bryne(the OBC J's Mother)
