Audition Song-- 2 days!Hi,
i have my auditions starting mon, for my h.s. performance of beauty and the beast.
The director always chooses music from the musical for auditions, but never tells us which until auditions.
I have familiarized myswlf with all the music, but some insite into the song i will need to preform would help. Basically how the audition works is (guys and girls sing seperate songs). about 10-12 girls audition and sing the part of the song the director chooses (im pretty sure theres a piano accompanment), and we just go down the line...untill everyone sings.
So basically any ideas what the audition piece may be?
thanks!

I think for girls it would be either "Home" or "Beauty and the Beast."
But just to be sure, I'd learn Belle's part of "Belle" and the "Belle Reprise."
I don't think that they'd use "A Change in Me," but familiarize yourself with it anyway. (It's not on the cast recording. Look it up on Youtube.)
Don't think that you have to belt everything that Belle sings, but don't sing it too operatically, either. A legit mezzo is usually placed in the role. If you're not confident that you can belt all of her notes, don't attempt to belt them. Your head voice is your friend and most casting directors would rather hear your switch into your head voice smoothly than hear you attempting to belt.
I will say now that with "Home," there are a few tricky spots.

These runs will probably make you switch vocal registers from chest to middle to head voice.

Ev'ry day in my childhood...
Just in case
I should stay here forever... |
"I was told" and "Just in Case" are another set of vocal switches. Middle-head-chest (again, depending on your range). This one took me forever to catch onto in vocal lessons. Because the melody's used twice in the song, I would suggest you get comfortable with it.

Lots of register changes here, same idea as the last two but more quickly, and most singers prefer to put more power into these verses.

"Oh, but then" is the same idea. Middle-head-chest.

All of me |
"Higher walls" hold the highest notes in the song. I believe the rest of that verse holds the lowest notes. Expect to change voices here quickly!
The rest of the song is pretty straight-forward, apart from the last note being moderately high and drawn-out and on a tough vowel, but it's not quick so it shouldn't be a problem.
The only thing I can think of for "Beauty and the Beast" that may give you a problem is that the song is pitched low. (But Belle has to hit a low E in "A Change in Me", and this song only goes down to a low F.)

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise. |
Just be sure you can hold out the lengthened notes in this part.
I'd guess the guys would have to sing "If I Can't Love Her" or "Me," although I wouldn't be surprised if "No Matter What" or "Gaston" are used.
Honestly you should just familiarize yourself with every song in the show (you say you already have, good!).
