Audition question for AdelaideAuditioning for a youth production (high school age). We need 2 songs - one ballad and one up-tempo.
Any suggestions for a 15 year-old girl belter?
We were thinking maybe I Cain't Say No for the uptempo.

How's your knowledge of Gilbert and Sullivan? 'I'm called Little Buttercup' from HMS PINAFORE would work as the ballad, I think. Keeping my fingers crossed for you...

Never heard of Buddie Beware. What is it from? We always learn so much from all of you!

"Buddie, Beware" is from the 80s version of Anything Goes. It's a catchy, cute song, but I don't know if I'd recommend it for an audition. It doesn't show off much range. Then again, it wouldn't be as overdone as "I Cain't Say No." But one of Bonnie/Irma's songs would work well, because it requires a character voice (like Adelaide). Good luck to ya!

Buddie, Beware. No worries, though. There's also one from the earlier version of AG, when the character's name is Bonnie...I think it's called "Heaven Hop"? I'm not 100 percent sure, as we did the 80s one.
Anyway, I think Somewhere That's Green sounds perfect...I love Audrey!
Best wishes!

Buddy beware...hmm...i agree with norayouadora...it doesn't show much range, and it isn't really upbeat at all
...I SO agree with "Somewhere that's green"-Obviously for the ballad
...maybe "Notice Me Horton"???? ((minus HORTON of course lol))

Audition question for AdelaideAdelaide is a fabulous role! I played her last year! I definitely agree with "Somewhere that's Green" from Little Shope for the ballad ..it's a very similar feel. and for the uptempo, I was not familiar with any of the other songs, but maybe "I Enjoy being a Girl" form Flower Drum Song or "Wash that Man.." form South Pacific. Also for the balled maybe "Happy to keep his Dinner Warm" from How to Succeed...! Hope that helped..and good lukc on the audition! let us know what happens

I don't know if you have already auditioned yet, but I think that "I Enjoy Being A Girl" from Flower Drum song is a perfect choice! I say this mostly because I just auditioned with it and got the role of Adelaide! I am soo excited!
Here's to breaking a leg at the auditions!

She ended up singing Always True to You in My Fashion from Kiss Me Kate.
She didn't get cast as Adelaide, but is having fun in the ensemble.
Its her first time in the ensemble in a long time, and it may have been a little difficult at first, but its an excellent production and she's learning lots. As she says, she'd really rather be the lowest person in the cast in a first class production than the lead in a bad one.
Tho she's about to turn 16, she looks only 13, and she looks like the youngest one on the stage. The cast is high school and college, with over half of them in college or seniors. So she knows she wasn't the right "look" for a hot box girl or Adelaide.
Next up is Little Shop of Horrors.

At 16, and to look younger to, in a cast of college students and high school seniors, it can be tough. I'm sure your daughter gave a great audition though and honestly sometimes its good to be in the ensemble. I'm glad to hear she's enjoying herself.

that's great that she's having fun and learning..those are the important things..and it must be good for her to be in a show w/college students..a lot of my friends have done that before and they said it was a great experience..plus Guys & Dolls is a super fun show no matter what role..tell her to break a leg for me!..and good luck with Little Shop!
