Audition Preparation

Hi my name is Christine and I'm in a desprate need for an audtion song and a contemerary monologe for a colage audtion. I'm an alto but can hit in a mezo sapranno range. I've already been advised to stay away from anything Wicked or by Brown. Can someone PLEASE help me!

Check the audition song sticky for a song.

www.musicaltheatreaudition.com has some good monologues. Go to audition songs/monologues and click on either monologues from musicals or monologues from plays. The search feature doesn't really work that well, in my opinion.

Get "The Ultimate Scene and Monologue Source Book"...It doesn't spoon-feed you the answers, which I LOVE! It will give you a background to the characters, then it will give you the first line and last line of the monologue...I found A LOT of great monologues in there! It may require you to actually buy and read through plays, but it's worth it!

You can get it on amazon.com...

Also...Check out the thread that MaryMag created http://musicals.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49866

It has a lot of other good books that can send you in the right direction! Smile

Ok so I have found out that my audtion is in Nov. for my school and I only have 16 bars to show them what I've got. I am going to do an upbeat song because that way I can show off stage presence as well as vocal ablitiy. But I was wondering if anyone thought that the last section of "My New Philosophy" was a good idea or not. Because it is slightly jazzy and that fits my voice well. BUt I'm not sure if it's good for a collage audition or not. Question Any ideas?

I think "My New Philosophy" is pretty overdone...I've noticed in posts about show auditions around here people tend to not reccomend it. (Donno if it's any different for college.)

a quick word in here for monologues

stay away from anything monologue from the song Cell Block Tango.. those are done a lot and most of the time hard to pull off.

i needed monologues for class this year and i used one from Fame.

idk i hope i helped a bit.
