I'm 19...mezzo soprano...white...going out for anything I can in our college production of Ragtime...we are allowed to sing pieces from Ragtime and our director also suggests pieces from Porgy and Bess or Once on this Island...suggests "actable" pieces...any suggestions? Thanks!

We're doing Ragtime at my high school, and the pieces we were given to audition with were "Your Daddy's Hands" and "What Kind of Woman," they both show a range, though the former goes higher. I happen to like "He Wanted to Say," but the part that Emma Goldman sings is rather short for auditioning. "Back to Before" has a good range too. Good luck!
