Audition Help!!

HEY
so im auditoning for rent, and i reallly want MIMI

any suggestions?
sylvesterm11

Normally I wouldn't do something from a current Broadway show, but Isle's part of "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind" is good for Mimi. And if you're on really short notice, sing something from the show. Mimi has a really distinct voice & it's hard to find audition pieces for her.

I auditioned for the school edition this summer, was called back for Maureen - after singing the first verse of Take Me or Leave Me in auditions. I had nearly no time to prepare and knew that song, so I took it for a spin. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

What kind of company are you auditioning with? Or is it school?

yea i would do a song from RENT but were not allowed to audition with a piece from the show.
its the school production, but its not at my highschool, its like a teen company you audition for, and once your in it, your put in two shows a year. its hard to explain.

yea i was thinking possibly something from spring awakening, but i wasnt sure.
how do you feel about in LA from fame, or hair from hair

let me know!

I don't like the Spring Awakening idea.
Look into other things. :]

In LA is good - Carmen pretty much IS Mimi.
Tom

Find a female rocker and use one of her songs like Pat Benatar's Heartbreaker or Joan Jett's I Love Rock and Roll. Don't use a show tune, find a rock song that shows you have the R-N-R chops

Don't do "hair" from "hair." Especially for a female.
WickedToo

Is this for your high school's spring musical?
Adie

If you want to use Hair Ain't got no... or I Got Life could work (or both)

Well if you absolutely have to do a song from a musical, try looking into other shows with a rock inspired score. Here’s a list: http://www.musicaltheatreaudition.com/shows/1showlists/rockstyle.html
Best of luck!
