Audition HelpI know that, officially, this isn't the right place to post this, but I feel like I'll get more answers and more helpful answers based on the show more.
My brother is auditioning for Into the Woods next week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday- August 26-2 . It is a middle school production (6th-8th grade) and my brother is a 7th grader. He doesn't know much about the roles, but I think that his best bet is for Jack.
He is about 5', brown hair. He's got a great voice, and I think he has potential as an actor. He hasn't done many shows before, only Cats at the same middle school in the chorus in 6th grade, and summer theatre r middle and high schoolers in West Side Story this summer as Baby John.
He hasn't ever taken voice lessons, but he does choirs, and he's starting voice lessons soon. He is very confident at home, but sometimes he can be a little shy during auditions.
I don't really know his voice range, but his voice hasn't really started changing yet, but he can go pretty low. He is in Jack's voice range, and he can go a lot higher.
If you could give tips for audition songs for him, that would be great. I know it's short notice, but I will be helping him, and he knows quite a few musicals. I was thinking maybe something like "Not While I'm Around" or "Johanna" from Sweeney Todd, which he knows, or "My Corner of the Sky" from Pippin. But I'm not sure if those would be right for that audition, and I would like some other ideas too. Opinions? Thanks!

My Corner of the Sky and Not While I'm Around seem to be the norm for Jack auditions. Sounds like you are on the right track!
And offically, since this is the Into the Woods forum, you are allowed to post about upcoming ITW auditions

I agree.
I have an Into The Woods Jr. audition coming up on Wednesday and I'm using "Not While I'm Around" for Jack.

Both of those songs are VERY overdone for Jack. It's kind of getting ridiculous.

But if you're an area where no one knows Pippin (like my hometown) and no one ever does Into the Woods (like my hometown) and even the people who know Sweeney Todd just know it from the movie and don't actually bother to learn the songs (like my hometown), those songs work out very well!

Very true. For school auditions and even some community theatre, doing "overdone" songs won't hurt you in the least bit.

Kudos!
I'm so sick of people going on and on saying that you definetely should not do some so called "over-done" songs, when its perfectly okay to do so.

Just because it's overdone among auditions in New York doesn't mean it's overdone in high schools.

If you browse through the first few pages of this particular board, there are quite a few audition help threads....check those out for some good songs.
