Audition Help:The Lion, The Witch, and the WardobeI've surfed the net so many times I might scream. Does anyone have any info on the characters for the play version? I've seen the movie plenty of times, but are there any major differences I need to know about. A friend of mine is directing this play, and my audition is May 12. Any help would be much appreciated!

Why not ask your friend?

I did, and she was very vague. She likes actors to do completely cold readings, so she wasn't about to tell me much about the play or characters, or even what she's looking for. I've read the book, I just want to know if the play follows the book exactly or what.

Oh, goodness. I auditioned for this at a children's theater ages ago...
I had read the book and seen the old movie, and I think it is pretty close to the book. but it is a very vague memory, sorry.
What part(s) are you thinking of auditioning for?

There are actually several differant versions of the play out there, and as she won't tell you which one she's using I'd say just get as familiar with the story as possible.....there doesn't seem much else you can do besides coax it out of your friend!

I soooooo want to be the witch! I never get to play the bad girl, so I really want to be a bad girl for once. The closest I have come to being the bad girl was Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie.
Yeah, I tried to pull moreinfo from my friend but she's pretty quick to catch on and is being very tight-lipped.
Did your production(s) use an English accent?

I've actually never seen a production of it, but I happen to know there are multiple versions because I love Narnia!
I would say don't use an English accent unless it sounds real.
And as for playing the witch, my advice would be to take more of a Tilda Swinton (The most recent movie) approach to the character instead of a Cruella Devil approach. Tilda's was more believeable because the character was....deeper.
Have fun!

In the version that we did, everyone could do a convincing English accent... except for our little Lucy. So we had to axe it.
We were all kind of mad.
Anyway, in our version, the characters were as follows:
Peter
Susan
Edmund
Lucy
Aslan
White Witch
Griffle
Mr. Beaver
Mrs. Beaver
Tumnas
Maugrim
Father Christmas
Professor Kirke
Mrs. Macready
...And an assortment of magical animals and spirits, both good and bad.
I was Susan; my little brother was a squirrel and a mouse

If you can find it (Library?) try to watch the old movie version as well. I think the characters were good in that one, too. And, of course, read the book.
haha, when I auditioned for it long ago, I read for the Witch. I was so surprised because I was always the sweet, innocent, blah character in any play, and someone wanted me to be bad!!! But, it was probably because I was tall.

The BBC version? I was raised on that movie! Although looking back now, from what I remember Peter was the only decent actor....maybe. It's been awhile since I last saw it.

I have the more recent movie, and I have 3 kids, so it's on almowt 24/7 at my house. THere is the occasional day they want to watch The Incredibles or another DIsney movie, but that's only when Mommy is sick of the movie.
My British accent is pretty good. I have met a few people through my work that are from the UK, and they all told me my accent was really good.
Thank you for the info. I will check my library for the old version, and I'll pick up my very well read paperback and go for it.
