Audition help for Hello DollyThe Show: Hello, Dolly
The Auditioner: 17-yr-old, 4'10, brown hair/eyes, with HIPS
Range: Probably a low alto to a mezzo. Don't know specifics, but I think I can belt reasonably well.
Ideal Role: Dolly
Some songs I have in mind are:
I Hate Men from Kiss Me Kate (Yes, Lilli is a soprano, but I think I can sing this song.)
You Can't Get a Man with a Gun from Annie, Get Your Gun
Don't Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl
People from Funny Girl
Open a New Window from Mame
Mame from Mame
Any thoughts? Suggestions? (I can't sing songs from the show for the audition.)

Avoid "Don't Rain on my Parade" at all costs.

Out of the songs you mentioned, I'd go with 'Open a New Window'.

Mame is definitely an awesome pick since Jerry Herman wrote both Hello Dolly and Mame. So go with Open a New Window.
I assume you're auditioning for Dolly? Or Irene? The best advice I'd ever gotten was to research the show (Watch the movie with Barbra Streisand. Read the play "The Matchmaker" by Thornton Wilder, the play the show was based off of.) Get a feel for the character you want and then, when picking an audition song, think about if the character you're auditioning for would sing this song. See if it fits their persona.
Hope this helps. Best of luck <3
