Audition for very contrasting shows! (ALNM and Urinetown)I have an upcoming audition for both A Little Night Music and Urinetown. Obviously, these two shows are worlds apart. I need two contrasting songs for the audition, but I have no clue what to sing. Any help?
I am a mezzo (E-flat below middle C to B below high C); I'm tall and overweight; I have a very strong mix (especially around the C above middle C to E above that area), but not much belt. It's a university production, so I would probably get cast as an older or ensemble character (which is why I'm so glad they're doing ALNM).
So what should I sing?

Christmas Lullaby - Songs for a New World
Disneyland - Smile
Fable - Light in the Piazza
Find Your Grail - Spamalot
Fine Fine Line - Avenue Q
Flagmaker, 1775 - Songs for a New World
Follow Your Heart - Urinetown
Forget About the Boy - Thoroughly Modern Millie
Funny - My Favorite Year
Gooch's Song - Mame
He Plays the Violin - 1776
I Do, I Do in the Sky - Drowsy Chaperone
I See a River - Urinetown
I Speak Six Languages - Spelling Bee
A Little Bit in Love - Wonderful Town
Lay Down Your Head - Violet
Look at Me - Violet
Many a New Day - Oklahoma
The Miller's Son - Little Night Music

Simple Joys of Maidenhood - Camelot
Smanie Implacabili - Cosi Fan Tutte
Still Hurting - L5Y
Take Me To the World - Evening Primrose
Vanilla Ice Cream - She Loves Me
What A Movie - Trouble in Tahiti
Whatever Happened to My Part - Spamalot
I'm open to learning more, though. Auditions will either be right after Thanksgiving or in the beginning of January.
I'm not sure what you mean by what I veere to, but I'd like to find something that shows off acting and singing ability. I figure for ALNM, I would be going for Charlotte, Desiree, or Madame Armfelt, or a leider singer, and for Urintown, I would be aiming for Little Becky Two Shoes, ensemble, or Pennywise if they go with someone who can mix, but not belt.

Given that the song has to cover both shows, I would probably go for Rosa's confession from the songs you have listed.

No, I'm at OCU. Are they doing both those shows, too?

I think I've decided on As If We Never Said Goodbye and Rosa's Confession. Any thoughts?

I personally would not to any of Norma's Sunset songs unless you look at least 50.

If you are doing Rosa's Confession as your first song, "Take me to the world" from Evening Primrose would be a great contrast, plus it's a Sondheim number, important as you are auditioning for a Sondheim show.

^So I shouldn't sing one of Norma's songs even for Desiree? As If We Never Said Goodbye has a very similar feel to Send in the Clowns, to me.
I was originally thinking about Take Me to The World, but it's a very ingenue song, and there's no way I would get cast as an ingenue at school.

Ah ok I see your point. Maybe As if we never said goodbye is suitable then, schools are an auditioning field of their own.
