Audition for Sharpay in High School Musical 2?I'm auditioning for Sharpay in HSM2 in the spring if 2010, and am super excited, because this is the first show I'm doing with this particular company, and they seem to be very promising:) Anyway. I have to prepare a 60 second vocal audition, a pianist will be provided, which means I'll need sheet music.I'd love to do "I'm the Greatest Star" from Funny Girl, starring Barbara Streissand. (2:30-3:30) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRbIjcKB_CY I'd take my voice a different direction than Barbara did, to more suit the character of Sharpay. But, alas, I can't find sheet music to I'm the Greatest Star (movie version) anyway. Ahh. So, any other tips on audition songs?? Oh, and does anybody have an idea of what her range is? I'm a mezzo-soprano. Other tips would be great as well! Thanks. -CayleeJo |

I've always imagined Sharpay auditioning with The Ladies Who Lunch. But thats just me.

Auditioning for HSM with Sondheim would not be a good move.
Sharpay doesn't go particularly high, I think her highest note is a C5, but I haven't seen the licensed score in quite some time. I think your song choice is great, but I don't know where you'd find the accompaniment. Maybe look into something from Footloose? |

Another suggestion I've heard is "I Enjoy Being a Girl", I fear that it would be too overdone though. I'm still in love with my "Funny Girl" choice, but have yet to find the appropriate sheet music. Although I did stumble across the "Don't Rain on my Parade" (Movie version) sheet music, what do you think about doing that song?? But racking it up to more of a snooty Sharpay dont' rain on my parade, sort of style??

That song could work! Use more of a pop voice for it, but keeping a musical theater technique, and that song could work well for Sharpay, in both content and range. |
