Audition for CosetteI am going on an audition for the part of Cosette and I've been given material from Les Mis to perform but I also need to take some other song with me to the audition. The problem is, I can't decide what to take. I don't seem to find anything to fit both the character and music-style of Les Mis, and at the moment I'm deciding between "When Will Someone Hear?" from Martin Guerre (for being the same style as Les Mis) and "If I Loved You" from Carousel (character-wise). Should I choose one of these or do you have any better suggestions for a song?

I think you need a song that will show your high range- and that you are able to hit a high c
"My lord and master" from "the king and I" is a very sweet and beautiful song- a lot of the cosettes I have seen has also played the part of tuptim at some point- and I think the song has a bit of the same feeling and meaning as "In my life". It also shows a high soprano voice very well. It is a great audition song too- not too long and no instrumental break. You will have a good chance of getting to sing the whole song without being stopped.
The second song that came to me was "The world above" from the little mermaid- also a high soprano song- which fits the sweet and innocente spirit of cosette- but I'm not sure how high it goes.
Good luck with the audition- Cosette is such a sweet character

I played Cosette earlier this year in a pro-am production and sang the last sixteen bars of "Seeing is Believing" from Aspects of Love for my audition.
I picked it primarily because I felt it was similar to the sentiment in "A Heart Full of Love", on the presumption that if they wanted to hear more, they'd get me to sing "In My Life" at callbacks. Which they did And while it only goes up at an A5 (from memory) if they want to test your range, they'll most likely have you sing scales.
But if you have to sing a whole song, I'd go with something that fits character-wise over being in a similar style. After all, they've given you Les Mis music and what's better to show off your ability to sing Les Mis-style music than that?
