Audition Excitement

So, you already know my High School is doing OUAM (well, maybe you don't, but now you do, anyway!)...and auditions are rearing their ugly head. This Friday (the 8th) are pre-audtitions, where our director introduces the show, characters, etc.; then we split and the guys learn an audition dance from Mr. Huber and the girls go with our music director and learn our audition songs... (we usually have one required "snippet", that boys/girls all have to sing, and then 2-3 choices for the girls of their other song, and 2-3 choices for the guys). Then we switch back, and the girls dance. At the end of the night we all dance in small groups for our dance audition, and that's the end of that. Our auditions are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 11 & 12), Call-backs Wednesday, and "the list" on Thursday or Friday!

Sorry, I'm just really excited. I really would love to be Fred, but Larken is becoming more and more appealing the more I think about all I could do with the role. Of course, at the end of the day, I just want to perform...so I will be happy with anything. Smile

Anyway, just be prepared. I'll keep all my concerns/questions on this thread so as to not piss anyone off, hehe. Razz But just watch for me this weekend/next week!! Very Happy

Lol, groovy. This just makes me jealous because my school doesn't do a fall musical... Just one per year, in the spring. And you're doing OUaM, one of my favorite shows! *Jealous* Lol, oh well. Best of luck to ya! Very Happy

Okay, just got home from the dance auditions/pre-audition meeting!!!

We danced to a section from "Very Soft Shoes"...I think I did really well, if I may toot my own horn. Razz So anyway, here are my choices for monologues/songs:

Winnifred Monologue -- when she first arrives at the castle, talking about living in the swamp, etc. ("Hi, Winnifred Here"...until, "so, I figured, the early bird...anyway, here I am. Who's the lucky guy?")

Queen Monologue -- she's talking to Dauntless about him getting married ("Well, Dauntless, of course I want you to marry...")

Lady Larken Monologue -- the one where she's talking to Harry about the jousting thing and then ends with telling him she's preggers

I pick one of those 3. Then everyone auditioning has to sing a section from the Finale, ("How did she stay awake? That pea was awfully small"...until "Thank you princess, and princess we love you so"); and if you're going for a role-role, the girls get only these 2 choices:

Swamps of Home (Beginning of song until "I hear the ca-aaaaall of the swamps of home)

In a Little While (well, this one is weird because this college intern guy for my choir teacher is going to sing Harry's part with the auditionees. so...its kind of all chopped up and all over the place)

Anyway, as of right now, I am pretty sure I'm going with both the Fred monologue and song. I'm basically trusting my original instinct and reaction which said, "THAT MONOLOGUE! THAT SONG!" lol. so...I'm officially kind of spazzing right now. of course I am just practicing like loco, but is there any advice for the song and/or monologue you guys have for me? I audition Monday at 3:20 p.m. (I'm the very first girl to audition!!)

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on just doing everything really big and brassy, because I think anything less wouldn't do Fred justice. Hm... thoughts?

Thanks, all. You've been a lot of help already. Very Happy

So...my audition was yesterday. I was the very first girl to audition, so...that's cool, I guess. Gives them a chance to hear the songs and see the monologue before it becomes boring for them? Idk. Anyhoo...a short little play-by-play:

I was super nervous (I always am for auditions...no matter what show, what director, anything...I freak), but I went in, handed him my paperwork and he looked up and went, "Hey you! Man, I've gotta pee. So anyway, how are ya?" And for some reason, that little bit of treating me as a friend made all my anxiety just leave my body. I sang the finale section, which was fine...it sounded good I suppose, it's just not the most interesting thing to sing. But whatever. I then did "Swamps of Home", which, IMHO, I nailed. He laughed out loud a few times, and I just focused on being super melo-dramatic and silly, while still retaining my vocal quality. Easier said than done...(damn you, Carol Burnett for setting the stakes so high! Wink ) Then I did my monologue, which also garnered laughter. So, in general I feel really good about what I did, and that's all I can do, I suppose. Tomorrow in the A.M. the call-back list will be up, and call-backs will be tomorrow after school. I love call-backs, I'm never nervous and I love doing scenes...so I'm crossing my fingers for that.

Thank you all for your well-wishes and just for hearing me out. I appreciate it so much!! Mr. Green

Wow! Sounds like your auditions went really well. I know what you mean, about the director treating you like an old pal--definitely helps me to relax! Lol. And I loooove that feeling of knowing that you really nailed an auditions--it's rare for me, so I cherish it when I get it. Hehe. Anyways, great job on your auditions. If it's anything like you described, I'm sure you can expect a callback. Very Happy

So, what do you have to do for callbacks at your school?

hey, my audition well good too, i was the 3rd girl so thats good. i was so nursive too, at first we talked and it was good. i sang good i think, but i messed up the words at a part the i never have before. hate it when that happends. but he said that i was good and no worries. did monologs good i think. and when i was on my way out, he asked me if i did pointe, witch i do so im thinking ill be the ballerina, but i really would like a lead for my last year but what ever. we'll see

ANd the way our Call backs go. he ushally puts us in pairs and makes us read diffent secans with different people. and depends on what your there for you dance again or sing. i like call backs the best its so relaxed. Wink
