*Adore*

I cannot wait to see this when I go to NYC this summer. I love where they've placed Patti's microphone, but one of her costumes seems a bit... Confused for Mrs. Lovett.

I really want to know: What's up with Lovett's hat? She looks like Rachel Dracht meets Chita Rivera with that thing. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't know, but it looks like she wears it during "A Little Priest".

Oh, I picked up on that. I guess it's that I'm used to seeing Lovett with a rolling pin in that scene. The hat is kind of...wtf.

Where did you get these? These are amazing!!
piscesmoni

It got sort of chillly when I was looking at these, lol.
Desperado

Of all the pictures to put first, you put..that one.

Wow, no more closeups, please.

I really want to see this. I'm intrigued by the whole cast is the orchestra thing.

Has anyone seen it? How was Pirelli? I think it's kind of weird that he's a woman in this version.

I loved it when I went to see it in November. I quite liked Pirelli. I saw the show before I ever really listened to my recording of it, so a female Pirelli didn't register as anything surprising for me at the time.

Lovett steals the hat from Pirelli after Sweeney kills him - if my memory serves me right.

And she uses it during Priest - and raises it in the air for the final note instead of raising a baking tool.

The show looks amazing, just amazing! Still....I feel that Patti looks poorer in her Act 2 costume that in her Act 1 costume. Does the knife spurt blood?
byebyebirdiefan

The knife dosen't spurt blood - when a throat is slit blood is poured into a tin bucket. And another cast member places a lab coat with blood splattered on it on the character just killed.

Exactly what I needed. Thanks, guestdude.

Kad: perfect.

A while ago someone who had been appointed props master for Sweeney Todd inquired into how one would make a razor that squirted blood. While you CAN buy such a thing, I've always been wondering how one would construct one. Using pipettes I suppose.

I would imagine a razor splirting blood to look very unreal. It would be much easier and more convincing to just simply have blood drip from the neck.

I think they mean one with a trigger-type thing that would squeeze out blood as Sweeney slits throats.
Kad

On the DVD, it looks like there are very small grooves that are on the "blade". I think that's where the blood comes out.

They have Sweeny on DVD already, or is it the old verson?
Kad

The old one.

With George Hearn. It's been out for a while. I think it came out in the 80's, although I could be absolutely wrong on this. There was also a '01 version.

There is a DVD with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn from 1982. There is a concert version with Patti LuPone and George Hearn from 2001.

Ok, yeah, I saw the concert one at my local bookstore.

Hold out for the Angela/George one. Though the concert is (apparently) worth checking out, if only for Victoria Clark as the Beggar Woman.
Perogo Ness

The Concert has a fab supporting cast, and is staged nicely. The original tour DVD has Angela Landsbury and is a broadway relic.

The original Sweeney razors had a two compartment brass handle. The lower compartment contained a "Sparklets" CO2 bulb and was separated from the upper compartment by a push button valve. The upper compartment contained the stage blood and fed a tube, perforated with a line of holes along one side, around which the "blade" was wrapped. Each Sparklets bulb held enough CO2 for one big two moderate shots of blood, with enough left for cleaning out with water afterwards.

They were made specially for the production at a cost of around £300 each; I think there were six in all. They were a bit heavy on Sparklet consumption and made a loud hiss when operated. You can tell in the DVD when George hearn slits the first customer's throatin Johanna(Act 2.)

I a buying some razors for a production my company is doing. Two razors are being made , the first being an oversized (about 6", open about 12") version of a normal cut throat razor, the blade slotting inside the handle and flipping open. The second blade was fixed in the open position, one half of the handle was a soft envelope in which you could insert a tube of theatrical blood, this connected to a thin perforated tube which ran along the top of the blade. So when slicing across the victim's neck, you squeezed the handle and the blood flowed, very gruesome.

Here are some pics of the razors. They look very nice. Hope they are!

Kaiana

they look great, good luck with that!
