Assassins- Would more be written if history is made?

Hypothetically, if a president were to be assassinated (or a significant assassination attempt) occurred in the remainder of Sondheim and/or Lapine's life times, would there be additions/changes to "Assassins"?

Should there be? Will there be? Discuss.

I don't think there would be....I just don't think the show needs it really.

I hope not. And I hope there will never be a scenario when that is even considered.

Is that it? I guess this is a lot less thought-provoking than I thought.

There were other assasination attempts (such as the one on Teddy Roosevelt) that were not included in "Assassins".

That's why I used "significant" in the OP. I guess a word like "interesting" would be more suitable.

I would say it shouldn't happen for one main reason: the Kennedy assassination and the whole scene with Lee Harvey Oswald works really well as the climactic point before the finale. I think it's a great ending, and adding something after that would kind of ruin it.

*cough* "Something Just Broke" *cough*

I too think it would take away from Lee's scene.

Like imagine putting a scene about (god forbid) an assassination or attempted assassination of Obama in the show. I think in today's world, that's what the play would suddenly be about. And I think its brilliant as is and should be left alone.

I don't think there would be. The Kennedy assassination took a huge toll on America when it happened, and Assassins wasn't written until the late 80's, 20-something years later. I think if (god forbid) Obama were to be assassinated, it would be completely inappropriate to stick it into a musical until a few years (at least 10 or 15) later, and let's face it, unfortunately Sondheim and Lapine probably won't be around in 10 or 15 years.

you mean John Wiedman

Yeah it was Weidman not Lapine.

Can we never mention Sondheim one day not being around ever again????

My world seems so dark just thinking about it.

It could work. It wouldn't have to come AFTER Oswald. It could just go somewhere else in the show. After all, some post-Kennedy assassins are included in the show such as Hinckley, Moore, Fromme, and Byck. But as the others have said, it isn't necessary.

He wasn't President when that took place...that was when he ran against Taft and split the republican ticket, making way for Woodrow Wilson to be elected.
