Asking for the Script?

I don't think anyone has talked about this before, but I may just be oblivious.
Ok, so I have a chance to audition for an original musical, is it ok to ask for the script to read before hand?
music is my life!!!

it depends on what kind of people are going to audition you. i always look for the lib but if they say that the play is similar to a famous one, look that up!

Totally depends. I got a copy of "A Lady Named Jo" a good month before I auditioned because the assistant director of the current show I was in was going to direct it. Had I not had a prior relationship with the director, I probably wouldn't have asked.

I don't see why not. The worse they would say is "No." And, then, at least, you've tried. They could hardly hold that against you in any way.

Thanks so much for the replys!
Ok, another question is, if they say no, how can I politely ask them how clean the show is?
My mom suggested asking them what age their target audience was, what do y'all think?

Generally they will let someone read/look at the script only while they're at the theatre/space. They won't let someone walk out with one, but are usually happy to lend it to them to look over while they're there.

I wouldn't see a problem with asking what the target audience is... If you are underage you would need to know what kind of material is in the show.
