Are the musical numbers "real" in context?

In most musicals, music is taken as real. It just happens.

In Company, however, are the musical numbers and singing "real," or are they more in Bobby's head, or do they move in and out of it?

I guess they were real sort of. But it seems to me that this show is like him reviewing his life - different moments of it - and all this could be taking place in like a 20 second period of his brain. You know? And so I guess it's like a lot of musicals. The music is just accepted as "real", but the whole thing isn't happening in real time. It's like flashbacks to moments of his life, I guess. It's a really far-fetched concept, I guess.

My friend's theory is something like, "The numbers are only real when Bobby is interacting with another person (Sorry-Grateful for the first half, Barcelona). Otherwise, they're in Bobby's head. The "Bobbybabybubby" is quite literally, voices in Bobby's head."

That's also my preferred interpretation, but there are others, of course. I heard that in the Donmar Warehouse production (with Adrian Lester as Bobby), the entire musical was completely in Bobby's head.

Where's the reprise?

It's right before Barcelona, I think, but I left my script at home, so I can't check it.
