Any parts for a younger performer?I am a younger performer and I absolutely love the show. I've see it twice and it was done by adults and older teens. The only young person was the boy who played Jack. Is there a role for a younger performer that I could try out for?

Some productions will allow people as young as 16 to play Jack or Little Red. Most productions do the show with all-adults, though.

Little Red can also be played by a sixteen or so year old.

My high school did the show and they cast the cow as a person. They asked a girl from middle school to play Milky White. It was actually really cute and very affective.

Yeah, so did we. She was the star and got loads of applause, but she was really good and definately deserved it.

20!!!!!!!!
She looks like a 12 year old, but if that's true.......Then if they ever bring it back on Broadway, I'm definately going to try out for her!
I heard somewhere Jack was 17, but I think that's the revival Jack.

There's a reason why older people generally get cast as kids in Into the Woods and any other musical. And I believe this reason has to do with child labor laws and the fact that they can only do so many shows with any actor who is under a certain age. I don't know. This would be interesting to research.

On Broadway, kids are usually double-cast (Young Tarzan in Tarzan, Chip in Beauty and the Beast, etc.) so casting teens/young adults as Little Red and Jack makes sense, as it costs less to pay one actor or actress to do the role than two. Community theater, however, has no rules like this that I know of, so younger performers can play Jack or Red, provided they have the talents.

I've seen a performance where both Jack and Little Red were 16 or 17, and one of the stepsisters was like 15 (but she was tall).

ultimately it depends what you look like. (i hate to say it) but if you're 15 and look 22 they won't cast you in any young roles. but if you're 22 and look 15 then you'd get cast. it depends on what you look like and what your voice sounds like. the theater is so different, with make up and such they could make you look 56 if you're 20 but it's harder to make older people look young.
i don't know if that made sense but it's late so i'm not really thinking. lol. i hope it helped. and the whole jist of tha paragraph is it depends what you look like
