Any parts for 22 year old guys?

I am a huge theater buff, but this is one play I havent really got into. But one of the community theaters is doing it in October. And I want to audition for it, what part would fit me-- I am 22, and a male. And a high tenor.

Not alot for your age range..maybe Noah Claypoole or If you are short you can play the 18 year old Artful Dodger.

Noah doesn't sing, but is a fun acting part, he has a couple scenes, and gets to "beat up" Oliver.

The Artful Dodger is supposed to be about 18, but most productions I've seen cast him about 12 - 14, his songs are usually too high for most older boys to sing. (My daughter played Oliver when she was 10, but he is really supposed to be about 13).

There are also the Fagin's boys. Our community theater had boys and girls dressed as boys, ages 10 - 30. So it just depends on what the director wants there. There are only a couple lines, but they have a lot of stage time and some great songs and dancing.

Then there is the ensemble. One song is Who Will Buy, with the Knife Ginder, Rose Seller, etc., and its wonderful harmonies. The ensemble does a lot in this show, and many smaller characters (like Noah, Mr. Sowerberry, etc.) can also be in the ensemble.

Mr. Bumble runs the orphanage, eventually marries Widow Corney, has a couple good songs. He needs to be an age to fit with Widow Corney

Mr. Sowerberry runs the funeral parlor, has a great song, funny part, can be very menacing.

Mr. Brownlow is older, turns out to be Oliver's grandfather, doesn't sing.

The Doctor also does not sing.

Bill is the villain, is Nancy's boyfriend, so needs to be old enough to fit with her. He has a big bass song.

Fagin has a number of wonderful songs, needs to appear older than the boys.

Hope that helps.

Thanks!!! This does help. I will consider, on auditioning now. I am in the ensemble in The Music Man, right now. It's fun to be the ensemble, but I dont know if I want to do it-- twice in a row, if you know what I mean?

only if you cut or rework My Name. its the most glaringly bad song in a an otherwise great score.

I disagree when we did it it got the audience in a state of "gasp" because it was played in a sinister key and the guy playing sykes just threatened everything about the stage. There was one move that I preformed (as nancy) in Oom pah pah as a fun light hearted thing that when repeated in My name made the audience actully physically gasp when he threw the head of a guy sleeping on the bar on the table

I'd hate to see a production of "Oliver!" where they cut "My Name" - I'd feel cheated!!

The song should be said rather than sung though and they guy doing it needs to be a great actor too and make it menacing else it won't work!

^^^ I agree. It would be an injustice, if it was cut. It show's Syke's character. I agree about the acting, it needs to be really menacing. You have to be a strong actor not a strong singer as such.

ther song is rather inane. I saw it in london and they reworked it and it ..you can hear the version on the cd. but in spite of miles acting and the new orchestration the lyrics are still god awful.

Its not really ment to be lyrically based as such its just ment to highlight that sykes is a threat to everyone or at least comes across as one. Its probably part of the reason why they cut it in the film (Im not a fan of the film in honesty) because it isnt one of the beautiful sounding ballads or upbeat tunes.

I respectfully disagreee. When I just recently did Oliver! in May with my school, the boy who played Bill had everyone in the 'pub' scared. He ever got one of the guys to vry (on purpose of course0 But, after the show everyone told me that he did a great job and they were scared. I really don't believe that it's a bad song. Though I completly agree with you when you said "great score."
