Any fellow ensemble members here?need adviceHey, i need advice.
so, i decided i want to become a broadway ensemble member. i am going to do a double major in performin arts and also political science. i am going to be college bound next year and i am planning to go to a college in new york city.welll i really want to know what should i major in for theater? and like the requirements for being a esemble member.
because this summer i will be working my butt off to expand my abilities as an aspiring actress. please, i really want to make my dream a reality because i am going against my parents will because they want me to go to medical school. i really have a passion for theater...
so i guess thats why i want to communicate through writing and visiting at the stage door (i live in new york) with someone from wicked or pirate queen or actually anyone from any show thats an ensemble member that actually have time on their hands. since you know stephanie is very busy so i don't want to bother her. so anyone have any suggestions of who should i talk to for advice?

well you can't really go to college to be an ensemble member...you just go and major in musical theatre.
ummm audition a lot is my advice. your chances are slim.
if i were you, i'd major in something else and minor in theatre that way i'd have something to fall back on if i didnt get newhere on broadway.

Any liberal arts college degree is just as practical or valuable as any other, I think. I know of NONE of my friends with liberal arts degrees that are actually working in the field they got a degree in. My older sister grauated from a top college with a degree in international relations and she does social work.
So don't assume that you need to get a more "practical" degree than theater, cuz that "practical" degree isn't gonna get you that far either.
MaryMag is clearly jaded - she thought her bachelor's degree was actually gonna get her somewhere! Hahaha, so naieve, MaryMag...
So anyway, get your degree in theater. Having it in political science really isn't gonna be any better for ya - you'll probably be working at Starbucks right next to me in the end.
Whew! All that pessimism was exhausting.

^Exactly!
I was a theater major and I'm working in administration right now. A degree from a liberal arts college makes you fairly versatile for most entry-level positions.
And, the only people I know who are actually working in their field are in the sciences.
Jobs are tight. College graduates are now everywhere, so most people who are working in their field are pursuing their master's or Phd.
As far as making it on Broadway, most casting directors could probably care less what you chose to major in as long as you have the talent and experience they are looking for.
