Anthony....

Hi everyone! Smile

I've just been cast as Anthony in Sweeney - how would you approach this character, acting wise? It seems to me that its very easy to make Anthony a bit cheesey, particularly when he's such a contrast to the other characters in the show. How do you imagine Anthony and how would you approach him in order to make him believable?

Thanks in advance. Smile

i hated the anthony i saw - he was waaayyy over cheesy. if i was to play him i would do it similarly to the way marius is in les mis, as there characters are similar... try to make him very gentlemanly but also be aware that u do not want to over act. try really feeling the character and make him as believable as humanly possible. add an air of macho to him even though at heart he is a big sissy... just to balance it out

but then again.. maybe he's one of those characters that are just doomed to be cheesy - good luck you have a hard job on your hands.

All of the major characters love someone and are willing to do anything for them. Sweeney is willing to kill people for his Lucy...Mrs. Lovett bakes the pies to help her win Sweeney's heart...Johanna is willing to kill to save herself and Anthony...however, although Anthony says he is willing to "shot a dozen jailers" when the opportunity comes, he cannot do it. In a way Anthony is the only character in the show will a moral and ethical sence. He wants to be with Johanna, but he cannot kill...he will "steal" her..although at her age he would really be kidnapping her or anything like that.
