Anthony in the Film

Well I noticed there is at least a pciture of him on imdb on his page...does anyone really know anything about him? Here's the link...you can see his picture and such...

I think that for him and the actor playing Tobias Ragg, it's their first movie.
dcrowley

He is absolutely STUNNING... but looks a bit young for the part.
Salome

he looks like crap. plus anthony should be in his mid 30s. that guy looks like a kids.
rytoast25

...........he looks kinda gay.
The French Taunter

Why should Anthony be in his Mid-30s? Because Victor Garber was? The character is, after all described primarily as "young". I would say earlyu 20s, top.
dcrowley

I agree he looks young... I always pictured Anthony is in his mid 20s. Hope this guy can sing.
Pannic

Yeah. 20s is what I imagined. 27 at the oldest.
Salome

if he was mastewrs mate on a ship in the 1860s he would have to be at least 30.

Not necessarily. Fletcher Christian, who was the master's mate on the Bounty, was in his mid-twenties.

So, Anthony would thus be courting someone half his age? With this in place, I don't see the difference between escaping from the captivity of the Judge to find solace in the arms of someone two times her senior. It just doesn't add up.
Salome

thats the whole point. anthony is about 30 johanna is about 16. the judge is inb his 60s or 70s. anthony is just as much a stalker as the judge. don't you get it?

Where exactly in the libretto does it say that he's a masters mate? I must have missed that. Anthony strikes me as way too innocent to be a thirty year old man.

EDIT: Sweeney Todd takes place in 1846. Where did you get the 1860's from?

I don't see where this comes up in the plot. Obviously, it could be interpreted this way by any given director, but where in the script does this come into play? It is a given that the Judge is old enough to be Johanna's father (and probably even older than that), but the whole "Anthony is twice Johanna's age" thing not so much.

Yeah... I don't remember anything about being a master's mate in the dvd.

Keep in mind that he's "...sailed the world, and seen it's wonders." He'd definately have to be on the older end of things.

It's true... the song "Johanna" is filled with very creepy double meanings.

Still, I picture Anthony more youngish... Mid to late thirties... and honestly I don't know of anything in the book that suggests otherwise... It is very possible that a young man could have sailed the world and seen its wonders... It really is an artistic decision to make Anthony more mature, not a definite...

Not necessarily. It was common practice for children to serve on ships at the time.
