We borrowed a shopping cart, built a box around it leaving the handle sticking out so it could be pushed. Painted bright colorful wheels and somehow they got the axe to fall down when it worked. I didn't see how they did that part.

Ours is so awesome!

I think they constructed it around a tricycle or something. The actor sits in it, and pedals it, but there is light-weight wood covering on all sides, so it looks like a miniature car ... sort of. It even has a steering wheel. And then there's a coppery train-like smokestack thing on the back second level.

Wow ... that sounds so confusing. I'll try to get a pic for you.

We had a wooden cart that he could push with all kinds of doodads dangling from it. For when it had to work, there was a lever that he could pull which would push the button on an aerosol can of smoke effect hidden inside, producing an upward puff of continuous smoke until he let go. It was very simple, and honestly it was all you need for a prop that's onstage for maybe five minutes total.

Ours was a little *thing* he pushed. It was basically a tall vertical box on wheels. There were oodles of little-kid toys hanging off of it. There was one toy hidden in the bottom that made popping noises whenever he pushed it, but he could stop it if he wanted... somehow. lol It didn't even do anything... he just yelled "it worked!" while some sound effects played... pretty cheap, but not one of the things the audience remembers.

I tried to capture one of the smoke coming out for you, but it didn't pick up on the DVD. It looked great live though.

I know ours was made of wood...& it actually did roll so he rode it...but thats all I remember. there was some sort of lever he pulled to make it move...

but I do remember that I tripped over it backstage one night & cut my leg open!!! it was quite nasty... Smile
