Another Closing - Young Frankenstein

It appears that Young Frankenstein will also be getting a closing...I'm not that surprised really, it wasn't that great of a show to begin with.

Do you have any proof?

Oh well.
wicked_boy

Meh.

The circle of life.
Monsieur D'Arque

The Producers, it wasn't. Still, I think this one will make a killing in regional theater. It may not be as good as The Producers, but to the non-theater-buff audiences, Young Frankenstein is a much more popular and high profile comedy, and will draw bigger regional crowds.
Yakko

Eh... it's a little to techie to pull off regionally.
Sweeney Hyde

^not for a big regional theatre it's not.

The economy is down. Ticket sales have been going down as well.
January is almost always the worst month for sales because people don't have as much money from Christmas and aren't going to be taking a vacation right after the holidays. Lots of shows are standing to loose too much money if they stay open after the "turkey" season.
Monsieur D'Arque

It's less "techie" than The Producers, definitely. Plus, unlike Producers, most of the costumes will be found in any company's costume shop. Even the Monster is a simple effect- green paint and bolts. No Chrysler Building dress, no Nazi army, no transforming accountant's firm.
Beagle On Stage

Not to mention that just because the original production was tech-heavy, doesn't mean that every subsequent one absolutely must be. Unless the art has now degenerated to mindless cookie-cuttering, which I sometimes fear it has.
Monsieur D'Arque

Producers can be done with less, but rarely is, as companies rent the whole set and costumes for a reasonable price.

Which now will scare the crap out of me, there are some shows I would like to be in on Broadway and I'm worried it may not happen!

Damn you BUSH!!!!!!!
Beagle On Stage

The nail in the coffin may have come during and/or partially due to the Bush administration, but this economic crisis has been well on the way for about thirty years.

same.

well also dont forget that december is the highest grossing month for broadway shows and thats because of christmas so people are going to be seeing shows like crazy during the week of after-christmas.

so i dont think shows are in too much danger. we'll see.
Beagle On Stage

We're all in quite a lot of danger, in almost every industry.

I would hate to be a wet blanket, but anyone who plans to go into theatre professionally, especially if the goal is necessarily Broadway, has more to be concerned about than whether their show of choice will open when they get there or not.

Of course, I'm sure it doesn't help that the majority of shows charge over $100 for a ticket. I'm probably going to NYC for spring break. But now I don't know if I can even afford to see any shows. So unlike last time, in 06, when I bought my tickets in advance ($70 for dead center row J of Drowsy!), I think I may have to try my luck with student rush or TKTS.
dolbinau

What is TKTS?
