Anniversary DVD

[Not sure what Anniversary is next, so I left the number blank]

I just watched the Les Mis 10th Anniversary DVD. The whole time I was thinking that we need one of these for Phantom. Exactly like they did Les Mis, but using the Phantom music and cast. I think it would be ssoo cool!

Thoughts?
shakalakababy

yes! I'd love that
lesmisboy

Nah, it wouldn't work. You'd have to have some sort of a set. Les Mis can be done in concert because the timelines and scene shifts are self-explanatory through the dialogue.....having said that, if they did 'Phantom' in Concert, I'd certainly want to see it. Sarah Brightman uses segments from the show very effectively in her live concerts... Neutral

I think Phantom is too much a spectacle show for something like that.
Nedame

Why not? I wouldn't say Phantom would go well with a concert like that but I'd watch it anways = )

I wouldn't mind...but can you imagine the in-fighting among phans about who should be in it? The Crawford purists will refuse to accept anything but the originals (minus, of course, the late Steve Barton). Supporters of various popular stage Phantoms and Christines will be at each others' throats, wanting their favorites in it. Some will insist on Gerry and Emmy.

It would be fun, though, to have all the former Phantoms do a group version of Music of the Night at the end like the international Valjeans did.

I agree that Phantom is probably too much of a spectacle show for a concert. There's the boat, the chandelier, the trellis, the suspending Punjab lasso (forgot what it was called) -- all of which is kind of important to move the story along. In Les Mis, all they really needed was something to portray a barricade. But didn't the concert DVD cut to actual moments in the show when something prop related (i.e. fighting at the barricade) came in? Perhaps a Phantom DVD would work if they did something like that? *shrugs*

However, I wouldn't have Sarah Brightman as the Christine. I love Michael Crawford, but I would somewhat doubt that too. (I found myself liking many of the replacements in Les Mis -- such as Lea Salonga or Ruthie Henshall). John Cudia/JOJ/Hugh Panaro and Rachel Barrel would be cool. Wow. That paragraph got random. If they were to make a DVD, those would be people I would like to see. XD
Fantine

Yeah they did, but Les Mis doesn't really need the stage props to pull it off. Whereas Phantom does, IMO.
Sweeney Hyde

I would like to see one done...it may be much more theatrical without when it is stripped down to nothing...but I would prefer a full show on DVD like Cats, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, etc.
Fantine

They will never do such a thing because the 2004 movie is similar to the show already.

Then they are releasing a film of Sweeney Todd...because...???
I don't think that the film of PotO would stop them from recording the live show.
They also made a live recording of Camelot after making the film.

I think it would be AMAZING if they filmed a "Dream Cast" in a live performance... I would watch it a lot more than the film.

Oh, for sure. Definitely.
But I doubt they would actually film the show while it's still running. It's not unheard of, but chances are, once the show reaches another big year, some sort of special DVD will be released.
Jordan

Brightman should be in it as Carlotta.
Mademoiselle Lanoire

If it's an actual filmed version of the show, yes. If it's a "concert version" like the LM TAC, then absolutely not. Concert versions are ridiculous for the vast majority of shows.
Fantine

Still a filmed version of the stage show would not be very impressive. It will never be equal to seeing it in the theatre. Which would be a waste of money.
