Annie get your gun

Is it a good musical? I was recently told it's probably going to be the next musical for our school, and I got the soundtrack from iTunes- and to be honest I really don't care for it.
Salome

the soundtrack with bette hutton or the broadway cast recording with ethel merman?

Annie Get Yopur Gun has one of the best and most delightful scores for a broadway musical in history. but the script is weak.

dont jusddge the score by the movie or by the awful bernadette peters revival.

the best recording is the 1967 revival with merman and Bruce Yarnell.

It's a classic, and it's ok. I love some of the music, but it's the kind of catchy show tune that can easily turn annoying. Pretty dated script and style, even when updated. So if you're a fan of more contemporary musicals, this one isn't likely to be your cup of tea.

I disagree with Salome's opinion on the best recordings, but unless you're going to run out and buy a bunch of different versions, that probably doesn't matter.

It's not something I would listen to for fun -I don't even own a recording, actually- but I had a blast when I was in it.

whgich would you prefer? the OBC? that version is incomplete.

and the peters revival is miscast and kept the two annoying young characters.

the kim criswell/thomas hampson version is good but hampson is a bit too operatic.

only the merman/yarnell comes alive the way the show is meant to.

I really love this show, I saw it before I heard the music, and really ended up liking the music in the end.

because the score is brilliant. with few exceptions you dont get a score as strong as this with today's shows. Irving Berlin was one of the all time greats.
