Anita vocal range/smaller partsI know I'm jumping into this a little early, but we're doing West Side Story next summer at my school and I had a couple questions. (Actually, West Side Story is a show my acting teacher is considering directing, so these questions apply for that too.)
First off - how high does Anita sing? MTI just says "mezzo-soprano" - I'm mainly an alto but can go a higher, and I'd like to shoot for her in my school show and am fairly sure I would get her if I did the other production. I just want to see if I can actually sing her part...
Second, Shark girls. I know there are several who have some speaking lines or sing some - what are their names and how much do they say/sing?

 What school do you go to? I'm transferring there... hehe. Ask broadwaychild about Anita. She just played the role. Honestly, rent the movie or get a hold of a cast recording. It's an excellent musical. She really doesn't go very high.

Haha  I actually have the original broadway recording, the movie, and the movie soundtrack...I just don't really trust myself to see if I'm hitting the notes without someone playing them for me on the piano.

The highest note Maria sings in a high C in the Tonight Quintet. And she holds it out for a while too. However, a lot of her other songs are up there. So it's a lot more soprano than mezzo.

We just did WSS at my high school, so i know it pretty well. The biggest shark girl part after Maria and Anita is Rosalia- she sings with Anita in America and has some lines. Consuela also has a few lines, and Fransica might(we might have just added her some at my school). But these girls are all in the i feel pretty song and the others are not. As for Anita, the highest not she sings is in "A boy like that", but it didn't seem that high to me. hope this helps!
