An Odd Thing I NoticedWell, actually, my mom pointed it out to me. But anyway, has anyone else ever noticed that Christine never actually tells Raoul that she loves him? It's implied but she never actually says, "I love you" like he does. I'm not saying it means anything, just thought it was an interesting topic.

Well it does mean something.
It means that she rally was all too confused and uncertain of hr felings toward both of the dudes.
So she didn't say it out loud.
To either of them.

You know, I actually looked up the lyrics to "All I Ask of You" because I was sure you were wrong. But you're not. She demands that he loves her (and he demands it of her) but she never says she loves him. That is odd. Clearly for a reason, I think it shows her naivété. She's young, and seems rather self-centred. Oh man, I used to think "All I Ask of You" was the world's most beautiful and romantic duet, and it is, at least from Raoul's side, but now I'm looking at it. Her never saying "I love you" is so odd, considering he risks everything for her, and in a way, she does for him.

I had never thought about that. Hmm. Well, I'm a Christine/Phantom shipper, so I don't care either way...hehe...but that is an interesting point to make. I don't think she ever says it in the book either, only that they are engaged...at least in the French one I read anyway. Intriguing!

Actually, when I saw the show in August 2003 with Lisa Vroman as Christine, she actually ad-libbed "I'm so sorry... I love- I mean, I'm so sorry..." when she hesitated after giving the Phantom his ring back. When he told her he loved her, she kind of choked out, "I love you too- Oh!", burst into tears, and ran off.
Of course, that's just one actress and an ad-lib at that, but I liked it.

That's so cool. I think all Christine's should ad-lib that in somewhere, wherever it feels most appropriate to them. Personally, I think she should say it to Raoul, but that's just me.

If you've seen the movie, she actually mouthes "I love you" to Raoul before she kisses the Phantom. Of course, on the show they can't do that because you'd never be able to tell what she was saying from far away... but I always liked that they did that in the film.

I've never noticed it. But I don't think I liked the movie enough to watch it again. I love the music (both of OBCR and the OMPS), but can't stand the film, and have yet to see it on stage.

She does say it to Raoul in the book though. It's something like, "that was what first revealed to me that I loved you." sounds close enough to me.
i never noticed that in the movie though. weird. that i didnt notice it, i mean.

Is that moment where she mouths "I love you" before she kisses the Phantom, while she is still standing there in shock looking at Raoul? Cause I seem to remember something like that, but not while she was going to kiss the Phantom....

Yes, that's what I meant. Must've posted it wrong
