Avenue Q doesn't have a "best" role; all the characters have their strengths. Even if there was a "best" role, it sure as hell wouldn't be Rod.

Of all the characters in Q, Rod has the most complex personality, something that many others really don't have. He has interests outside of his one main "story point," something that no other character does. Also, with his avid love of musical theater and that voice that wasn't a gay stereotype before he invented it, but probably will now, he's a very New York Theater Scene type of character. He practically is the Man in the Chair, only as a more visible figure to popular culture, Rod has taken off more than the Man in the Chair ever will.
