Re: Amateur rights released in North America!
Great news!! So I called MTI, after I read your post, and they told me it's only being offered to a small number of specific theatres right now. It will be available for any theatre to apply by the end of the year. They said the performances would have to start around March 2006, so I anticipate a lot of theatres doing it this summer!! |

I thought the amateur rights for "Miss Saigon" were already released, but maybe I am confused about something.

Yeah, my high school is doing this as our spring show next year -- I didn't know much about it before our director announced it, but now it sounds like an amazing production, and it better be cause its going to be my Senior show!

Did this end up happening? I've heard of no amateur productions to date...I'd think this would be done by everyone (and for the most part done badly |

It's still in the petition stages, I believe. Besides, it's tricky to mount especially with that helicopter thingy

I can vouch for The Full Monty, though. My community theatre is doing that next spring. No news on Saigon though. I would love to see this show somewhere!

We open with Miss Saigon next week and so far we've landed the helicopter without a hitch. It looks pretty realistic and we've got fans all around the auditorium to blow on the audience when it takes off. This is definitely by far the most dramatic production I've been involved in. After the embassy scene, me and the other G.I.'s were completely spent of energy and emotion, its so draining and so real. |
