my school just did The Music Man, and a third grader had the role, only becuase winthrop had to be young, becuase none of the boys in 7-12 grades could sing very high, and amaryllis & winthrop have to be the same age.
so they probably will be younger.
i was going to be amaryllis, but they changed it, becuase of what i just said above, so i had the role of Gracie Shinn. at first i was disappointed, but it acually is a bigger part than amaryllis. At least in our production it was, amaryllis only has 1 real scene, but after that scene, she is just pretty much a normal townsperson.
Gracie though, is the mayor's daughter, and i got to do a lot more than amaryllis would because i was part of the Shinn family. Like i did a solo dance during 76 trombones with my sister (zaneeta) when the boys band marches around, Gracie is also on stage much more than the common townsperson.
zaneeta would also be a great part to try out for, she was everyone's favorite character in our production.
lol. sorry, i spent that whole time telling you to audition for someone else.
but amaryllis is usually casted as a younger kid, around the ages of 8-10, and i would say a good song to audition would be 'goodnight my someone' since amaryllis does sing that song in the production, if you are allowed to sing a song fm the production in the audition.
