Then just audition for one of the kids in general, and take the part they give.

Go for it. You probably won't need to be specific about which child you're auditioning for unless you're auditioning for Liesl - they can usually tell. Little girls are generally auditioning for Gretl and Marta, girls 9 through about 14 are auditioning for Brigitta and Louisa, and 14 or 15 and up generally audition for Liesl. If they do ask you to list a specific part, mention both Louisa and Brigitta, since you're right between and could play either.

Brigitta is ten years old and the second biggest child part, in my opinion.

Brigitta is ten years old and is the biggest kids part other than Liesl. I think it's an excellent part, but if you really have your heart set on Louisa, you may still have a chance. It all depends on the height of the other actors and the pickiness of the director. The director I had for this show wanted the kids to be very proportional. We had to look like steps going down.

As Maria told the Captain in the "Straitjacket Speech", Brigitta notices everything. Near the end of Part 1, Brigitta told Maria that her face was all red after dancing the Ländler with the Captain.
