Am I in the wrong here?Right, I am feeling quite... I dunno, silly at the moment, because I am disapointed with my role in a show. I knwo it is stupid to feel like that, but it just annoys me.
The show is 'Fiddler on the Roof', and I have been cast as Fyedka; an important role, I know. But; I am in 1 song (To Life), in which my solo has been made into a duet with the constable (the solo was the Russian bit). It just annoys me, because everyone but me is in at least 3 songs... even my dance solo has been cut! I learnt the bottle dance and other Russian folk dances, because the choreographer told me to do so, and even went as far as going to private classes (at not a small cost), onlyt to be told that my dance solo has been cut (I was suppossed to do the Russian dancing in 'To Life' on my own)... gah.
Am I being inmmature here? Or do I have the right to feel this way? I don't know...

No, it's unfair to tell you to learn something then to cut it. I also hate it when the share out roles with other people once they have been cast. They should decide this in advance and tell people before they audition for the roles, as otherwise, they may not have taken the role at all. I think you are right to feel as you do.
Now, can you do anything about it? probably not, though you could get in a little niggle by writing to them teling them you're fine with this but that in future they should tell peole these things first. Oh and ask for a refund on the lessons.

That's pretty much my feelings - you're not being immature at all, but I don't know if anything will be changed back at this stage. Do let them know though, but don't be overly emotional about it - and it certainly can't hurt to ask for some reimbursement on your lessons!

I would make darned sure the director and choreographer KNOW you can do the bottle dance and Russian dances. As a director/MD/choreographer, I have cut long dances down to the parts I know everyone can learn and be impressive on, but I've never cut OUT an important number before seeing if the cast can handle it. An example would be the sword dance in Brigadoon. I actually bought an instructional video and learned it to teach it, and it ended up being pretty impressive.
Get their attention at rehearsal, and suddenly break into dance. Hey, it's drama...everyone is a bit twisted anyway!

In ours, the Russian part was too high for our Fyedka, so we jut gave it to two boys who were also Russians.

Thanks guys, I feel less silly now ^_^
Yeah, I spoke to the director tonight, and he said he feels silly himself for telling me sooner. He said he is gonna talk to the choreographer and try and put the bottle dance back in; the only reason they cut it was 'cause they weren't sure it was viable to be learnt. Obviously, I proved them wrong
