ALW rips his own show???I was watching ALW's video blog recently and he was talking about the new productiobn of DREAMCOAT.
He was kind of mumbling in parts... or maybe it as the sound of the video that was bad... but he mentioned something like this:
"It's turned into a teenybopper show... maybe someday we'll get it back to what it used to be."
I remember thinking "Did he really say that?" I mean, this is the internet and billions of people are watching. You think that something like that wouldn't be said in public.
Curious... very curious.

I chanced to visit that video blog, and I listened to it carefully. ALW was actually saying that the rehearsals for this Joseph revival made it like a teenybopper show, but he meant to say that the show would eventually play like a musical once things were settled. No, he wasn't ripping his own show when he did this video blog.

It became a teenybopper show long before this year. I, too, hope that it will someday be back to what it once was. I suggest cutting the crappy (ie, drawn-out and synthesized) orchestrations, staging it with some grasp of the emotion and gravity of the story, and casting a narrator with a penis. That would only fix three of the biggest problems, but it would be a good start.

Then what would you do next?

I'm glad that A.L.W. didn't say all of THAT!Dear "JatATD" Fans,
When I first read what Beagle was quoted as having said, I thought that Beagle had quoted A.L.W., and I was SHOCKED! I am relieved to know that A.L.W. didn't really say all of THAT!
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have only just discovered this site. But thought I would at least correct the impression here when people have so completely got the wrong end of the stick, albeit ages ago now.
ALW's comments were during the previews for Joseph last year and reflected the reception that Lee Mead was getting from the audience. Ie, rather (very) enthusiastic! It might have quietened down a little since, but not by so very much!
