All that Jazz!Alright.
So, for my revue/competition/show-thinger(has been explained in numerous other posts..) The judges suggested I do a more well known song. So I'm going to do all that jazz. It's yet to be performed by anyone in the run, so it wouldn't be horribly overdone (even though.. god knows..). I'm a dancer.. so I am going to dance with it.. I was just wondering what all of you HATE to see done with the song, and anything you would all suggest? I'm pretty sure nearly all of you have seen this song done before..and this competition is really getting down to the wire.. So how can I take this song.. and really make it pull me ahead? ((Ps, I've got to perform this on friday. that's the one thing I truly hate about this show, it's all so short notice.))

I really hate when people go All that jaa-eeeeeeeeeeeeee-az. Know what I mean. Rather then just ja-a-az. Make sense? And I personally hate when people do the knwon choreography from the show. true, not everyone will know it, but as a gay man whoe does  that gets on my nerves. I want to see what someoen can come up woth. i mean of cousre it can have the Fosse style to it, but I have seen so many carbon copies. I also think it is important to remember the time period of the show and the jazz singers of taht era. yes you wanna belt out the ending, but teh song shoudl be a mix of sultry, sexy, sophisticated and WOW!

^I agree with you, shadowdancer! (You know I'm a big fan of your advice!) 
For competition purposes, I would be as creative as possible with the choreography. To really put yourself into it makes it even more special!

Grade A way to fix a performance of All that Jazz:
change the song.

I think "All That Jazz" is a more exciting number vocally and acting-wise...
Also, "Maybe This Time" isn't a great song for anyone younger than your late 20's (and even THAT'S pushing it) because it is one of those songs about someone who's truly been there and done that. There's a certain maturity to it that wouldn't work...It's a song in the same vein as "Adelaide's Lament", in the respect that it is a song about someone who's tried and tried and tried for years to get something...
I dunno...I'm not saying you'll be an utter disaster or anything, but I think "All That Jazz" would be a better pick in my opinion...

^ I'd have to agree with Jazz on that one. I think "All that Jazz" has more of an opportunity to really "wow" and entertain than "Maybe This Time" as well.

I can't..
a.) it's too late.
b.) another girl was planning to do it the same night
c.) when I worked on it with my vocal coach.. it sucked.
Maybe this time.. is going to be killer for me.. but.. I've got no choice.

OH that sucks. I do love Maybe This Time . Why don;t you give the girl some competition and sing Cabaret. I love Maybe this time but it is a tricky song to sing and sell well. I would totally sing Cabaret and blow her outta the water!
