and i know so little about her!!!!
if anyone has played her or has seen someone play her or has some good ideas on her tha would be great!!!

Zaneeta...From what I remember, she and Tommy are the lead dancers of the teens (so, when teenagers are dancing, they are usually in the front.) Ours had a solo dance in "Marian the Library" along with a couple of sequences with Tommy.
Ours was played kinda bimbo-y, with a touch of rebellion (she goes against her fathers wishes and dates Tommy.)

Zaneeta really likes Tommy.
As for whether she respects or rebels against her father, personal choice.

A great place to start when working on a new character is to think about the character's relationships with other characters in the story and her back story. Try to talk to the actor playing Tommy and discuss what attracts the characters together. (Lord knows my Marian and I had many a discussion on this subject with our characters). Also discuss your relationship and history with Mr. and Mrs. Shinn. This will really help you figure out how Zaneeta feels about the rest of the people in River City. If they are not willing to discuss this, then, well, you can make your decisions on your own and just be a more dedicated actor than them! Of course, not everything should be discussed, like if you choose to have Zaneeta secretly hate her father and he's not supposed to know, it may be better not to tell him because then he might play to the fact that he knows even though the character shouldn't. Confusing? Anyways, characters always find their own way to shine and stand out as rehearsals go on and you get used to everyone else in the cast. I'm sure you'll do great! My Music Man opens in two days, so I'm a little nervous. Hopefully that wasn't too long-winded.

Just a few quick questions for Artistic_heart: Is Zaneeta a hard part to play? Do you think a 13 (soon to be 14) year old girl could easily play the part? I am auditioning for The Music Man this weekend and am either going to audition for Zaneeta or Gracie, still not sure which.

Have you seen the movie? ( the older one) I don't think you can get much better in regards to characters than the original movie.
When I was in it, our Zaneeta was a sweet and talented girl, but got bigger and bigger every night, since she got some laughs. DON'T give into the temptation to become a clown. She is still a real person in the context of the show, with a family and has to face her parents later at home. Does that make sense? She comes up with some snappy lines and puts on some bravado in regards to her relationship with Tommy, but she's probably a "good girl" at heart and will probably face retribution at least from her father when they get home. Keep that in mind and don't make it too silly or BIG.
Witches of Oz- Zaneeta is supposed ot be about 16, so if you look that age and can act that age (and of course, act like Zaneeta), and dance well, I would say go for it!

zaneeta part is a very fun part to play. i denfently think zaneeta can be played by a 14 year old considering that i'm 14, but then again i look a little older then 14. zaneeta is a very fun part, but every charater even the dancers have so much fun! so no matter what part you get i'm sure you'll have fun. good luck on your audition! and pm if you have any more questions.

Thanks so much! I just got my callback for this Saturday or Sunday for reading. I'm so excited! For my music audition, I sang My Favorite Things from the Sound of Music. It took a while to hear back, but I'm glad I got called back!
