My personal opinion is no, that 41 is a little old for Laurie.

I think that you can push their suggestions and cast someone in their 30s that looks like they are in their 20s. You have be careful with anyone older. It would also depend a lot on Curly.

The only reason I asked was because a 41 year old was just cast in our community theater's production.

I saw a Marian Paroo that was in her 40's or 50's. It was not good.

In my personal opinion that is toooo old. The right age to handle this role in a proffessional setting would be about 20-30. The right age for community is probably 17-35.

I don't think it matters so much the actual age of the actress, but how old she looks. If she looks (on stage) like she's in her 20's, then no, 41 is not too old. However, if she looks every day of her 41 years, then there may be a problem. Then again, it also depends on how old the actor playing Curly is (and looks).
I say this because I am often cast much younger than my actual age, but no one has ever mentioned that I'm too old to be playing the role. More often, they are shocked to discover that I'm not the age of the character!

I agree, it just really depends on how old the person looks. The Curly who was opposite me was 47..even though I was 19. But he looks very young, not in a million years 47. He could pass for like..late 20's maybe or early 30's. So it really depends on the person.

I agree as well.... it all depends on how old you look and the other casting in the show..... in my late 30's into my 40's I have played many roles written for younger women...

Our Laurey was 26 and our Curly was 32. They were both good and it was so much fun being in the chorus.

41 is too old. Aunt Eller is only 50, so to have a 41 year old Laurie makes no sense for a lot of reasons. She needs to be young and virginal, without many worldly experiences. At 41, none of that is believable. According to Lynn Riggs and his play "Green Grow The Lilacs", Laurie is 18 and Eller is "about 50".

At first I read that as "our annie was at least 65". I was imagining some wrinkly old lady with a red afro and red dress attempting to belt out tomorrow inbetween her seconds on a portable respirator that is dressed up as the dog.
