Age?Dear Godspellers,Do the ages of the Godspell actors really matter that much? I mean, could anyone within an adult-aged cast be between 18 and 45? Thanks in advance for your replies. |

I have loved Godspell for over 35 years and I believe it is a musical for the young. Keep the cast between 15 and 29. That's my opinion.

Usually I totally agree with Tom. However, if the actor has that certain joie de' vivre and childlike quality, I don't think it matters how old they are. Frankly, the original disciples were all middle aged middle and lower class men... |

It makes me mad because they are doing Godspell at a theater close by but they want 30-50 year olds...I'm only 16...so mad...I'm still gonna audition and hope that they change their minds!

The Bible doesn't tell us their ages. In Jewish tradition, the age of 30 was considered mature, and most teachers and leaders were at least 30. I know WE don't consider 30 middle aged, but when the life span is only 50, and women marry at around 15, the disciples were probably "middle aged" - in context.

...and in the middle ages, people followed trades. They began apprenticing at age 12, 13, 14...but they didn't become journeymen until much later.
Besides, Jesus wasn't an ordinary rabbi, especially to those of us who believe in Him. And I reiterate, the Bible gives us no clue as to their ages, except that some were mature enough to be married, and that some of them were of a certain profession. |

Hmmm I do not think age matters. I think the charactors represent a persona more so than the disciples themselves. Besides Judas of course. If he wanted a direct recreation of the disciples You wouldn't have to worry about age, you would have worry about being a female. Since there were no female disciples in the bible.
When you watch godspell you can see the charactors gradually exploring and beginning to believe the religion. Which I think represents anybody. It could 52 year old Born a gain christian or a 15 year old boy finding his own faifth. So age does not matter. |

The bible talks about lots of female disciples... just thought I'd point that out... Mary magdelane Mary and Martha of Bethany "The other Mary" who ever she may have been though not part of "the chosen 12" they were disciples by every sense of the word. lol just a little tidbit of information... also I dont think the age thing is nearly as important as the character of the person! |

I agree with Robinflamingo. I'd set the limit at about 30, but older could be used as long as they have that "childlike quality."
