I put this in the Random Facts About You Thread but no one said anything so I thought Id maybe try it here.

So I was cast as chorus in my university's production of Little Shop but they asked me if I wanted to play a special part they dreamed up. They want me to be a wanna be street urchin. Its kind of a stab in the heart because I was obviously good enough but they are doing this to make it up to me in a sense (they really screwed me over but thats the past). In the same breath I could really ham this up and steal the show a little bit and it would definately put me onstage more.

Any opinions?

So you aren't one of the three urchins (aka Ronettes/Chiffons etc) this would be an additional random street person? If so, then do it if you want to do it, but if you've got better ways to spend your time, then I wouldn't feel bad about declining it. No matter how much they try to amp up this part, the show just isn't written to showcase anyone but the leads.

We actually did that in our school production. There was a really talented girl who tryed out, be she looked much too young to play any of the urchins. The character just kind of hung around and looked up to them. She did well in the songs, and, because of the direction and talent of the whole cast, it fit well.

Go for it! I'm usually not into effin' with a good book, (or any script for that matter.) but the way I'm invisioning it, it sounds like it could be a lot of fun! But make sure you want to do it. Nothing upsets me more than castmates who don't want to be there or quit the show mid-rehersals or later.

Thanks guys! Just as a side note, Im not the type to quit a show I dont think I ever have. With this show the extra part was an option and I told the director I would let her know on monday. No matter what my decision ended up being I was still going to be a chorus member.
My grandma told me to do it. She thinks I should go out there and get all the experience I can and just have a good time. So Im following bother her advice and this thread and going for it!
