Adam Pascal herniates disc.

http://broadwayworld.com/article/Adam_Pascal_Herniates_Disc_Cary_Shields_Fills_in_on_RENT_Tour_for_Detroit_Engagement_20090218

I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he'll be back performing soon. I don't want to sound totally selfish, but if Adam Pascal is not able to perform, then that is seriously a waste of money for me. I don't give a rat's ass about Anthony Rapp or the rest of the cast. He's the reason I bought tickets to the show in the first place. Sad

I don't think you got what you wanted.
Mungojerrie_rt

The understudy is probably just as good, if not better.

Maybe not better, but I've very good things about Cary to say the least.

I can understand your disappointment, Alex. I was scared to death one of them would call out when I saw the show. But seriously, how can you not give a rat's ass about Anthony Rapp?
What you own

My friend saw the two of them and she did say that he was ju,ping on the tables alot less. she was like " It was like stool to table" Lol. Although she was kidding about the stool.

It sucks how IMO they are obviously using the Anthony Rapp/Adam Pascal angle to sell tickets and it would be extremely disappointing to miss out on seeing them - can you get refunds in these situations? IMO you should be able to.
broadway_bound92

I am SOOO glad he was there when I saw it.
Poor Adam, though. I hope he feels better!!

And how can you not love Anthony Rapp?!?! He is such an amazing performer and he is by far the BEST Mark ever. I mean, he IS Mark![/b]

What do you want, Adam on stage a neck brace?

Not everyone is seeing Rent just for Adam and Anthony even though that's their angle. And anyone who knows anything about theatre should realize that there is never a guarantee as to who you're going to see, no matter how much the stars are being marketed as the selling point.

No, did you read my post?

I know they need to make money but this policy sucks - since they are obviously not providing the service you paid for.

I know they gave refunds when Patti didn't appear in Gypsy (the whole 'name on the marquee' thing) or even IIRC when she was in Sweeney Todd so it's not like it's unheard of.

I agree with this. Except I don't don't why he would be in a neck brace if he herniated his disc... To my knowladge that does not effect your neck...well unless your herniated disc. hurt so badly it caused you to fall down in agony and hitting your neck on a near by poll/chair/wall/ whatever might be around. Or Adam just haveing a thing for neck braces.

But I mean your still seeing RENT. Unless people are just like Adam or nothing Not talking ( Adam or bust Lol)

Well thats not a fact. The thing is there are other people besides the OBC. Alot of people I guess like them becuase they have heard them do the part and think that they're interpertation is the only one. I have not seen Adam or Anthony myself so I can't say anything about there performance. And of course I'm not saying they're bad. No, I'm just saying the OBC is just the originals the OBC is not a graneteed best. They're just the people who did the role first. Sometimes they very well can be the best. But it does not mean becuase they're the OBC they're interpertation is the only one or the right one or the best one. I find that being nice sometimes not seeing the OBC and seeing how they interpet the role. I guess becuase most people have heard the OBC the ones they are seeing are always compared to the OBC so there fore the OBC is the standard that we compare everything to.

Does that make any sense? Look just becuase some one was not in the OBC does not mean they can not be good. That they can't sing a better rendition of One Song Glory. Shot me but dare I say it from what I have seen of Adam and what I have seen of Will chase having that pretty much be pretty equel in I have both not seen them live but have seen them on film and have listened to them. Shot me but I love Will Chases One Song Glory. Hell, I like his better then the OBC recording of Adam's One Song Glory. (The movie version he IMO sounds a bit more polished. And of course it's not the same because in the movie there is a differnt backing. If you listen closely you can hear what sounds like an organ when he sings "In the eyes of a young girl, A young girl" A that countinues for a bit. Becuase of this even if it's a amazinglingly small detail the small details make everything. So therefore I really can't compare fairly on this.) Vocally IMO Adam sounds better then will in the movie version. In the OBC Will I think beats him out by a bit. In OSG. IMHO. But I guess my ponit is there can be people other then the OBC. I'm paying to see RENT if I was just going to see Adam then I would go to one of his concerts. That works the same with any other cast member.

Although I do understand. Becuase I mean you are seeing the actors and you are seeing there interpetation of it. But people should not be Speak to the hand and refuse to listen to any other actor. I agree with TVAW when she says and I qoute (Again)

There is no grantee who you are seeing. Although it is they're angle that they are selling.

Although as the person above me ponited out

Very true so it's not an unheard practice. But you know what. I payed to see Gypsy. And you know what if there is still some one who is goign on to play Mama Rose. Then they still have the ablility to put on the show and I still can see it.

You are still seeing RENT. If you are seeing a concert with them then yes I agree. But you are paying to see RENT. Theres never a granentee. You paid for RENT if they are still putting it on then they are provideing the service you paid for.

Does any of what I said make sence? I see both sides I see where both sides are comeing from...

I saw the show on Wednesday, and I have to admit that I was initially kinda bummed out. I'm not going to lie, if Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp hadn't been headlining this tour, I probably wouldn't have bought tickets 2 months ago for it. I love Rent as much as the next guy, but I've seen it enough times to where I'd rather save the money towards a new show. But I DID buy the tickets because of the names. So my girlfriend and I were both kinda pissed when we got to the Opera House and found out that Adam wouldn't be there. Purely for the fact that he was the [1/3 of] the reason that we bought the tickets in the first place. Cary was good, but not Adam.

Now, when we got home and found that he was hurt and out for the week, I felt kinda bad for bitching. And I hope that he gets well as soon as possible.

My reason behind thinking that Anthony is the best Mark, is not because he was in the OBC. I've seen three other Marks besides him (idr names and dont feel like pulling out playbills now) and still think he's the best.
Part of my reasoning is that he was a part of the show from the VERY beginning (before the other OBC members) and Jonathan Larson incorporated alot of Anthony's personality into the role. And he wrote songs based on Anthony's voice (What You Own, I believe was written FOR Anthony).
Anthony has a quirkyness that he brought to the character, that is so funny and loveable, and I haven't seen anyone else who can compare to him.

I'm not saying Anthony is bad. I agree with you he's been with it since the begining and I agree completely but saying that he is the best Mark ever... Just becuase of that does not automatically make him the best Mark ever. Of course this brings up an intresting ponit of how we judge people's performances of the charcters.... But lets not get off topic.

Anthony Rapp overacts and the way he carries himself is just weird. Look at how NPH makes fun of his weird arms and hand motions during that SNL skit.

I had seen Cary Shields on a bootleg once, and I thought he was very good, wayy better than Will Chase. But I bought the ticket to see Adam Pascal. I had already seen the show a crapload of times live and through bootlegs. If it wasn't for the chance to see him perform, I wouldn't have paid 200+ dollars for my sister and I to go. My sister is even more bummed than I am. She's demanding that I ask for a refund, but I'm not willing to do that just yet.

Yeah! I mean, I feel bad for Adam and wish him well, but it sucks for those of us that bought our tickets solely based on the headliners.
satch

well i have tickets and plan to see rent when it comes to my town, but if adam can't perform that's fine (a herniated disc is SERIOUS).

i would rather have him get well than see him risk further injury.

besides, Anthony Rapp is the main reason why i wanna see this Smile

Mucho masturbation *shrugs*
Sphynx

I'm going to be INCREDIBLY bummed if he's not in the show when it comes to Dallas, but I'll understand. I mean, seriously. We don't need him wounding himself further.

I won't bail - I'd see the show no matter who was in the cast.
mastachen

His website says that he's back for the LA stop, so hopefully I'll see him at next Sat's matinee.

That's kinda what I love about him. He's awkward and quirky, and just really fun to watch.
