Adam and Anthony Doing Tour in 2009!!!

Quote:
Pascal and Rapp Will Tour in Rent in 2009

By Kenneth Jones
28 Feb 2008

Rent stars Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp will reprise their original Broadway (and film) roles in a 2009 national tour of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Jonathan Larson musical, which will launch in January.

Producers Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum, Allan S. Gordon announced the casting. A current national tour plays through June 2008.

Pascal and Rapp originated the roles of Roger Davis and Mark Cohen at the New York Theatre Workshop, on Broadway, and in London, and re-created their roles in the 2005 movie version of the musical. Pascal and Rapp returned to Rent on Broadway for a limited engagement in the summer of 2007.

The Broadway musical ends its 11-year run June 1 at the Nederlander Theatre.

Seller stated, "Adam and Anthony didn't just play Roger and Mark. To millions of Rent fans they are Roger and Mark. Adam and Anthony are to Rent what Joel Grey was to Cabaret and Zero Mostel was to Fiddler on the Roof. It's a great time to offer fans all over America the unique chance to see them in their signature roles."

Pascal received Obie and Theatre World awards and a Tony nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Roger in the original cast of Rent. On Broadway he also originated the role of Radames in the musical Aida and starred as the Emcee in the long-running revival of Cabaret. Off-Broadway he co-produced the hit play Fully Committed. His film credits include "Rent," "School of Rock," "SLC Punk!," "Temptation" and "Goyband." Pascal recently guest-starred on the hit television series "Cold Case." His recordings include "Model Prisoner" (2000) and "Civilian" (2004).

An actor since the age of six, Rapp has appeared on Broadway in Rent, Precious Sons (Outer Critics Circle Award), Six Degrees of Separation and the revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. His films include "Adventures in Babysitting," "School Ties," "Dazed and Confused," "Six Degrees of Separation," "David Searching," "Man of the Century," "Road Trip," "A Beautiful Mind," "Open House," "Winter Passing," "Danny Roane: First Time Director," "Scaring the Fish" and "Rent." His book, "Without You: a Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent," about his experiences on and offstage, was published in 2006 by Simon & Schuster. Besides acting and writing, he also creates music with his band Albinokid (having released a solo CD, "Look Around," in 2000), and speaks regularly at colleges and universities.

Tours of Rent have crisscrossed North America almost continuously since late 1996 grossing over $330 million. The musical has been translated into every major language and been performed on six continents, including in the following countries Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Written by the late Jonathan Larson and directed by Michael Greif, Rent opened at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre on April 29, 1996, following a sold-out, extended limited engagement at Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop. The musical went on to win every major best musical award, including the Tony Award as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Rent is the seventh longest-running show in Broadway history.

A full tour route and additional casting will be announced shortly. For more information on the show, visit siteforrent.com.

I hope they stop here!!!

I saw them when the returned to Broadway last summer and it was amazing. I heard a lot of people say they were afraid they were too old to pull off the roles, but it was incredible. I probably won't be able to see them on tour though.
jarrod001

Ahh im going to see the tour in a little over a week with the current people, but ima have to see it again now!

2009?
They're going to be like... fifty.
mastachen

I might go back and watch it if it ever stops in LA.
Brock07

I hope it comes near me!!!

But seriously, can they not get any other work anywhere?
kitty17794

I can understand them wanting to play their signature roles...I think thats cool that they ENJOY doing it. And I'm one of those people who just loves when stuff like this happens, I dunno. Its kinda special. If they like doing it...then hey. Smile Good for them. I might try to catch it if it comes to Florida.

There are rumors of something like an All Star Tour, and this is the first step towards that. I hope Jaime Lee Kirchner or Jen Talton get Mimi.
Brock07

OMG that would rock!!!!!!

But not so much for my wallet... Crying or Very sad

I'm sure they'll come to Toronto. Everything usually does eventually.

I think its because it was so hard for many theatre goers to go to New York and pay the money to see them when they reprised their roles on Broadway. It's now like they are coming to you to perform.

I'm majorly excited about it!

When do you think the tickets will be on sale?

It would be up to each individual venue.

Since the film or REnt REmixed, have there been any changes to the orchestrations?
Bristian

None that I noticed when I seen the tour in Chicago about 3 weeks ago. The conductor sped up and slowed down some parts and during the I'll Cover You (reprise) Collins and the soloist sang different parts instead of the "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH". I wasn't really listening for different orchestrations that time though. I was comparing the first tour I saw and this one.

The end thing as everybody was leaving the theatre was different this time though.

...if you have a myspace account...
