acting like a cat

many CATS performers don't own cats. However, many do...or now do after being in Cats. Most will admit to watching REAL cats for inspiration, movement, and, attitudes.

(if they watched mine, half of them would fall off the higher pieces of set...look about, and pretend they meant to take a prat fall)

anyway, how many of you get inspiration from your pets? How many have been in cats and taken inspiration/lessons from your most astute of professors?

How many of you have cats with no shame?

(mine lay about like road kill in the middle of the hall...it's like a scene from pet cemetery at times...yeesh~)

^.^ how many have been in cats, yet never watched a REAL cat...or didn't own a cat?

Mine don't do much this time of year. Then again, it's 10.30 pm here and still 100F outside. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 115, so I think they can be forgiven for lying on the tile in the kitchen and front hallway where it's coolest. Wink Even though the A/C goes full tilt this time of year it can't do much more than 20-30 degrees, so it's about 80-85 in here during the day. It's nice, but my computers don't like it much. Confused Thank God for laptops.

Through them I've learned that death is nothing to be afraid of, it's just part of life.
Flitterbug

My cat is more like a dog. He looks up to our old ridgeback-cross and tends to act distinctly doggish a lot of the time. (Likewise the dog has taken on some aspects of cat.)
Nedame

Well my cat is very old so most of the time she lays around and when she's not doing that she vanishes and I have no idea where so goes to. : )

Cats certainly can inspire dancers, and I think all performers in Cats should spend time studying real cats. Not just moving how they think cats move, but looking at real cats.

But.... my little tribe has a perfect Gus- old, shaky, deaf, senile, shouting randomly! The others are also not lithe, graceful dancers, unless there's a toy to kill. They're capable of the most beautiful elegant leaps and bounds but they tend to sit on tables and knock stuff flying, or jump up and miss... not graceful!
Spanish_Rumple

I was fond of dogs until I saw Cats... now I'm fond of cats but I still happen to keep a strange bond with dogs... they do not fear me, even some known to be unkind, come to me swishing their tails... I wish cats had that feeling for me aswell... *sighs*

But I don't have a pet, I still leave with my parents and they won't let me have even an ant!!
Rallers

I've got a similar thing going on with Spanish_Rumple, in nature, I'm much more of a dog person and dogs love me, but I adore cats (gee, really, I'm just an obsessive fan of a musical devoted to 'em, heh) and hell hath no fury like me when there's someone even joking around about hurting a cat. Which is unfortunate, because that's gotten me into a lot of trouble over the past.

But On Topic...only ONE of my cats is even remotely graceful, our manx-like kitten we adopted named Bugs is always tearing around, doing flips and spending most of his time creating chaos amongst my mom's brand new furniture. BUT. ...he has no tail. And very, very long hindlegs. He over-propels himself a lot and so...in the midst of these awe-inspiring bounds and leaps and scaling that brings to mind the powerful lynx, or perhaps the majestic caracal...he goes and collides into a wall or cabinet. It's hilarious. (He's always alright, needless to say. You think a collision is going to stop a kitten from wreaking havoc?)

Carmichael...uh, she probably was graceful in her younger days. I grew up with her literally, so I don't recall. Razz She's not very graceful right now at all...very much a Grizabella. Limp, kinked tail, all saggy everywhere.

And Draco. ...he's got Bustopher Jones beat. He's got an udder of fluff and pure fat (I swear, if he had two, every time he tried to run those things flapping would make him airborne!). He's more interested in lovin's than playing or running. Except Bugs has made it his life mission to make sure Draco never relaxes, so Draco might melt away the pounds running from Bugs and become the graceful cat deep, deep...deep...deeeeep inside that he is, hidden amongst the fluff and pudge.

Cats and Real Cats

The above is JAMIE - He is our silver tabby shorthair who started off with a Victor personality. As he has "matured", he has taken on a Munkustrap one. So, he is our private Munk...

If the performers emulated our precious Tom, they would sleep on the set 3/4 of the show, take on a somewhat knock-kneed (okay, ankle) stance, and develop a tummy (House cat syndrome). Of course, being in the Junkyard probably works off the tummy... Other than that, acting adorable is his trademark around the house.
