A Song From 'Love Never Dies'- The Phantom Sequel

Not sure if any of you have posted this, or have heard this.

But honestly, this song is Absolutely beautiful!

Till I Hear You Sing(Once More)

But it will still suck!
BroadwayBeast

Maybe you should give it a chance, seeing as you have not seen it yet. That irritates me so much when people just think something is going to suck, without having any kindof first hand perspective, and without seeing the show.

Maybe it will suck, but did it ever cross your mind that it may be halfway decent?

I'm sorry but as a POTO fan.........I just can't see it as being decent. They have a Robo Christine for godsake!
dolbinau

We have known about this since the official announcement of the show (two weeks ago).

I think it sounds 'nice' but it is extremely generic (consider, replace "sing" with anything...till I see your skin, your hair, your lips.....including verbs...till I see you paint..cook..defecate..)
BroadwayBeast

How bout this people.

'We Will See What Happens'

Just saying it annoys the hell out of me when people judge a book by its cover.
Set_Buildin_Dad

I agree with the Beast! Prejudice is ugly wherever it rears it's head. You may not be an ALW fan, heaven knows that I don't like anything he's done in recent years, but listen and watch before you judge. Who knows, even if the story line is cheesy the music might be great. I for one will look / listen first and judge afterward.

There's already a whole thread about this in the Phantom section...

And how come nobody can spell the title correctly? The Phantom is not a farmer. I doubt he has ever tilled in his life. Wink
RainbowJude

Already a thread

Here's a link to the other thread. What I have to say about the song, I had said there.

And, Mungojerrie, it's completely acceptable to use "till" as a preposition. Even the Oxford English Dictionary will tell you that, and if it's good enough for the OED, it's good enough for me.

Till is what you do to soil. 'Til is short for Until.
Mama Rose

The music that's been released so far sounds godawful.

Ramin Karimloo seems talented, though... a shame he can't get better roles.

But the dictionary says...

Words in English can be used in different ways. Till can be used as a verb, as you've mentioned, as a noun, to refer to a cash register or a kind of clay, or as a preposition to mean "up to the time of". In it's use as a preposition, the words has its roots in Middle English and it is in this usage not a shorted form of the word "until", in other words, it is its own root word. That's all gleaned from various editions of our friend the OED, but there are 12 other dictionary entries that support this over at Dictionary.com. Indeed, one entry there says that 'til "is usually considered a spelling error, though widely used in advertising" and another says that 'til "is considered acceptable, though it is etymologically incorrect".

I actually really enjoyed the song. This song will be used in MANY peoples reps for their power ballads for the next few years.

I really didn't like the long. Seemed totally cheesy and generic to me and just not that great of writing.

Same. Plus, having the actor not in costume was just... odd. He looks ten years too young to play the Phantom in the first place (even though he already has), let alone in the sequel.

And is it a bit out of character that Erik is singing about someone who HE LET GO??? Sheesh!
SmallTownIngenue

Um I don't think he wanted to let her go....It's quite obvious that he still loves her and wants her at the end of the original Phantom but lets her go with Raoul because he thinks she will be happier. It definitely wasn't a decision he wanted to make.

Anyway, the song is basically what I would expect. Very stereotypical ALW power ballad. Ramin Karimloo is not bad to look at, but horribly miscast as the Phantom. They better have a good make-up artist to make him horribly disfigured and older.
Beagle On Stage

It may not be the greatest song ever written, but it's certainly better than anything in the "original" Phantom of the Opera. Higher quality than what I expected.

Sounds like he needed it to be a little higher though. He had a hell of a time with the lower notes at the beginning.
WickedToo

I agree that the Phantom cast is too young.

I didn't like the song. I'm not a huge fan of Webber. I only like 2 songs out of Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Well it wouldn't be a problem if he didn't learn his lesson of forcing love.
nabla

The only part of the song that really annoys me is the very end (as in the last time he sings "'till i here you siiiiing once moooore"). The melody line there just seems so boring and cliche, it irritates me

Ramin just turned 31... far too young to play the Phantom.

I see the Erik around 50 years old in the original musical, so he is at least 60 in Love Never Dies. Twice Karim's age!!

I have no fear for his acting and the way he'll look (make-up, etc..). The problem is his voice.
Do he sounds like a 60 years old man? No!
He sounds older than 31 (when you compare to 33 years old Gavin Creel, example), but he sure doesn't sound like 60!!
Fantine

If he can pull it off he can pull it off, whether he is 31 or 61.

Maybe he's fifty in theory, but the musical has always shown him as a sexy, taut-bodied thing in his probable early to mid thirties, with a voice that harkened more to Josh Groban than to Pavoratti. The Phantom has never been meant to appear middle-aged in the thirty years he's been part of the Webber franchise, so I don't know why he suddenly would be old enough to collect social security now.
Brigantine

Oh, Beagle, you do make me laugh.

My impression of that song was that it was... OK... but the only thing I really liked about it was the orchestration and that guy's voice half the time- the other half he was too modern and poppy and scoopy for me. but overall it was decent. I mean, if I was somehow given the opportunity to see the show for free I wouldn't turn it down. I'll give it another listen sometime though.
Monsieur D'Arque

What about Crawford? He was never shown as a sexy, taut-bodied thing, but as... well... a guy who sounds like Michael Crawford.

He may not have been a total stud, but was in good shape for a guy his age, and certainly more aesthetically pleasing than most would expect a fifty-year-old to be, especially one who is malnourished and hasn't seen the light of day since childhood.

Besides, even if he did look fifty, that would be one Phantom out of many.

And furthermore, you could cast the Cryptkeeper himself and he would look hot and sound great starring opposite Sarah Brightman. Woof.
Bare Fan

I really liked that song actually, especially the orchestration at the end, I thought that was well done...I didn't actually expect to like it as much as I did, but I think it took me by surprise because it wasn't the typical massive opera number that I thought it would be if that makes sense. I liked the use of the upper register towards the climax of the song but I'm glad it wasn't overused, I thought there was a nice balance.

I'm interested to see what the rest of the show will be like.
