I know this is kind of an old thread, but I was browsing and I wanted to offer an alternative perspective.

I believe Che is paying his repects because EVA won. (Like European monarchs would do when they lost a war and had to pay homage to the winning monarch.) I think Eva won beacuse, through her tragic death, she is now considered a "saint" by her people. Now, no one is going to beleive what Che has been trying to say throughout the show. That is, that she is human and she had her own ambitions and somewhat selfish reasons for doing things.
